California : Tracked

Evo has an interesting set of vids regarding the California.

http://www.evo.co.uk/videos/planetev...alifornia.html

BTW: Why no California or 458 Tags under FERRARI MODELS ????

Good catch, I'll add the California this week and wait until the 458 starts to hit dealers to add that as well.

You are pretty close with that statement. Except the carpeting in a SL550 is superior to the mole hair carpeting in the California.

I read on another forum that it does not, but Im not 100% sure. It seems relatively high off the ground though so daily clearance shouldnt be an issue.

It is quite high and has very high profile tires!

I was quite surprised to see the road height and the tire side wall series.

It is very Americanized al la SL550.

Do not believe it has a front lift system.

Dear ferraristi,

I think the California should have been slightly smaller, much lighter and with a high revving smaller displacement V12. Instead it came out as a Maserati with a Ferrari badge and retro California design. But it might increase in sales as considerate husbands start buying them for their wives and mistresses.

I'm sorry but that's how I feel about it. There are already a few Californias traded in by unhappy owners at my local Ferrari dealer. It just does not qualify into the Ferrari league. To me it is a Maserati and I think the Maseratis are great cars. But Maseratis serve a clientele with less extreme demands on performance, bold exquisite engineering and top exclusivity. This is something the California lacks (being the Maserati it is) which on top of all makes it overpriced.

Switzerland is one of the countries with the highest density per capita of Ferraris and ferraristi and the California has not been well received here.

Sincerely,
il Capolino

I don't think they're selling well, at least not in the Seattle area. There's a new red one at my local dealership that's been marked "Sale Pending" for at least 6 months now, and they just added another new one to their inventory. I'd expressed interest in one a few months ago, and got the impression that I could have a new one in 6 months at most.
I've decided to wait for the 458 Spyder, which I've heard will be available in the US by summer 2011. So, beans and rice only for the next 18 months.

Sorry but beans only to get a 458.

F of NE bought 25 California's on a special deal so they could help Ferrari now and then get greater 458 inventories later.

They are brave!

That is great news, cdkhopkar!!

Oblige your dealer to set up a waiting list and put your name on it so you don't get put on the back burner when the first ones start arriving. I did that last summer when I was presented some computer images by the dealer of the final design.

I added the option to alternatively get priority on the coming "Scuderia/Challenge S."-version which is likely to be presented after the Spider. I still expect a tiny bit of time on the back burner considering there are some ferraristi in my region with a massive customer history with the dealer.
Ciao,
il Capolino

Cup holder is very important. Try shifting a 6 speed 360 while holding a diet coke!

I have to believe the Calif was a poor concept.

Don't know what Ferrari was thinking but it was not clear thinking!

Saw two in the past 3 weeks here. Neither impressed me even the Azzuro one.

I approached the California with great skepticism, but after taking a spin in it I was "won over." Great handling, very nimble, excellent sounds when revved, and fantastic DSG. In summary it drives nicely, beyond question, Ferrari's only true daily driver. Now, how much of all of this is Ferrari, that's a whole other discussion which I leave to the seniors of the Ferrari world as I am only a rookie as far as Ferrari's are concerned.
