Help to find out a little about my 308 GTS

Ok since it's all gone a little quiet I was wondering about the history on my 308.

It apparently was given new in 1980 to one of the San Fransisco 49ers as part of his signing on deal. could well be a load of rubbish but it would be nice to find out.
Any takers on how to find out.

I would doubt that a car now in Ireland was once here in Northern California. It is always possible but not realistically probable.

Gerald Rousch has a publication know as the Ferrari Market letter. He has for more than 30 years kept track of Ferrari S/N's.

See: http://www.ferrarimarketletter.com/

He could certainly tell you if anyone could.

And Mike Sheehan runs Ferraris-online.com. He also has a huge database of chassis numbers.

I would start by contacting Gerald Roush at Ferrari Market Letter. The Ferrari Club of America also might have some history on the car.

You can clearly see from the pictures in the link that it is a US-spec car. There are a number of US cars in Europe (and Euro cars in the US). Sometimes it is down to things like US servicemen serving in Europe. Sometiomes it is just down to price differentials due to exchange rate fluctuations etc.

I'd be surprised if Mike has anything on this particular car as I don't think he generally tracks 308s unless it is one he's sold. That doesn't mean he isn't worth a try though as he's very helpful.

The guy I bought the car off was over in California visiting friends and spotted the car in a dealers. He fell for it, bought it and shipped it to England, Chelmsford to be ery precise. I then bought it from him and drove it over to here, well when I say drove there was 90 minute boat trip involved.
I still have the original number plate surround which I think has something to do with the dealer in the US. Someone will correct me on this if I'm wrong.

That surround was from Ferrari of Silicon Valley which is now Silicon Valley Auto sales. They gave up the Ferrari dealership in the late 80's to Ferrari and then Ferrari open up the factory dealership in Mill Valley, CA as Ferrari of San Francisco.

They are about 50 km's or 30 miles from me.

It is possible that it was owned by a 49er's player.

As soon as I went respond last night my internet kept crashing so I gave up.
Very interesting. I'll see if I can dig anything out of the paperwork for the car and and email the address you've given me. Thanks for that.
I let you know how I get on.

"Erm, guys". I just found out who owned my car

I opened the owners warrenty book at the first page Yes I should have thought of that a long time ago but anyway, the guys name is Edward J DeBartolo Jnr. He wasn't a player for the 49ers, 'He just owned the bloody team' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_J._DeBartolo,_Jr.

I even have his original address in the warrenty book. Ok it means nothing to anyone else but me but I'm all chuffed at that I finally got to the bottom of it. It's put me in the mood now to trace all of it's history.

Thanks to you guys though for the offers of help.

I'm searching through the pile of bills and ducuments now but just came accross the 'State of Ohio- Bureau of Motor vehicles' card. The original licence plate when the car was registered was MAD 343. This is fun.
