The SSC Ultimate Aero sets the benchmark for supercars today. Achieving tremendous power via its twin turbo V8 engine, it produces 1,183 horsepower and 1094 ft-lb. of torque making the Ultimate Aero the world’s most powerful production car. Combining this proprietary power plant with a lightweight, aerodynamic body and the best handling systems available, SSC delivers a vehicle that not only eclipses all other cars but stands OFFICIALLY as the "World’s Fastest Production Car”.
The SSC Ultimate Aero TT is a higher-performance limited production version of the SSC Aero, an American-built mid-engine sports car by Shelby Super Cars.
The Aero and the Shelby SuperCars company are the brainchildren of Jerod Shelby who spent over seven years designing the car. SSC announced they had broken the speed record for the world’s fastest production car with 256.15mph (412.23 km/h) in West Richland, Washington on September 13th, 2007. The reported record speed came from an average of two runs in opposite directions in accordance with Guinness Book of World Records rules. The fi rst run clocked 257.41 mph (414.26 km/h) and the return trip 254.88 mph (410.19 km/h) with the average beating the Bugatti Veyron’s top speed of 253 mph (407.16 km/h).
The results of this test, verified by Guinness World Records on October 9, 2007 gave the SSC Ultimate Aero the title of world’s fastest production car. Styling of the Aero includes the use of butterfl y doors similar to those found on the SLR McLaren, Saleen S7, Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR, and the Enzo Ferrari. Carbon fibre and titanium are used throughout the car. This particular model is cobalt blue but currently has a matt black exterior wrap in order to protect the bodywork from stonechips prior to delivery to it fi rst owner. This matt black wrap can be removed within four hours.
The Ultimate Aero has a 6.35 litre (387.2 cu in) engine, rated at 1,183bhp (882 kW) at 6950 rpm and 1,094 lb-ft (1,483 Nm) torque at 6150 rpm and the supercharger is replaced by a twin turbocharger with cabin controlled adjustable boost pressure.
Given the horsepower, the Aero produces more emissions-legal horsepower than any other production automobile in the world. Despite being able to run at redline for extended periods of time, the Ultimate Aero remains remarkable drivable. The proprietry twin-turbo V8 powerplant retains excellent idling characteristics and, thanks to a drag coeffi cient of 0.357, Langley full scale wind tunnel calculates the vehicle to be aerodynamically stable to speeds of upto 273mph. Whilst featuring all the amenities found in a luxury saloon, the supple leather and suede interior is highlighted by Custom Recaro seats, a 10 speaker premium sound system, DVD/navigation/reverse camera and a cockpit controlled lift to raise the front by four inches in order to navigate road hazards.
Only 24 Ultimate Aero TT’s have been produced from between 2006 and 2007.
This particular example is the ex-demonstration model and has just 429 miles recorded. It is the very fi rst of 24 and the actual car that broke the world record against the Bugatti Veyron making it even more special and offering the buyer a chance of an lifetime opportunity to own such an extra-ordinary vehicle as well as a unique opportunity to own an actual piece of record breaking history.
