Olympic Games: Yes or no?

Who here watches the Olympics like I do? It's on TV here live everyday from about 0500 and I'm adjusting my sleeping pattern to watch it everyday !

Anybody else as fanatic as that?

I Love the Olympics !!!!

I also like the Olympics very much, but it's hard too watch - time difference is HUGE, plus I have to work and can't watch TV while working for obvious reasons

it's a shame, so many sports that I love but I can't watch (Tour de France, or the NFL, for example)

but well, I hope to watch the Marathon, at least!! And maybe this time there won't be a crazy m0th&r f*ck&r to take the Brazilian out of the lead

I was at a bar last night and we were watching the women's power-lifting competition in Bejing. Pretty cool stuff. I enjoyed it so much I ended up taking a little Mongolian girl home with me for a little powerlifting myself.

OMG You americans suck with your chants !!!

I'm watching the women's Water polo final and though it's a very close match, and the referees are in favour of the americans, the only chant the americans can come up with is "USA, USA, USA, USA"

That's the best you got? WE DUTCH HAVE ENTIRE SONGS !!!!

Yes I'm biased

HUP HOLLAND HUP !!!!

Basosz, did you watch the Top Gear challenge against the Germans from the other program that I don't know the name?

Perhaps you have the "bad winner syndrome" that Hammond has hehehehehehe

Congratulations anyway, always good to beat the USA

Thank you I'm very happy !!!

Yes, I did see that :P That was extremely funny :P

I'm very sorry. I'm not usually like this. I'm quite fond of the USA even though the current administration is a total farce. Regular americans are usually very nice, and it's a quite baeutifull country, but in sports I'm totally, completely and utterly for my own country. I love the fact that a country with only 1/17th of the USA population can take home 1/6th the medals that the USA takes home. Compared to China it's even funnier since they have 1.3 billion ppl. But I especially like the fact that we dutch ppl from an underdog position beat the americans who were quite convinced they were gonna win.

Right now I'm watching CNN and they tell of the 10km men's open water swimming which was won by Maarten van der Weijden of Holland and it's a Lance Armstrong story cause Maarten was diagnosed with some form of cancer in 2001, and he overcome that and now he won the 10k. Very very cool !! The dutch TV had our own Pieter van den Hoogeband (VDH, a famous swimmer) as a co-commentator and he completely yelled his voice out. He was extremely enthousiastic and totally sincere.

I love the olympics !!!!

Congratulations Basosz. What events has Holland won in? A side note I think they should have football in the olympics. ....and I don't mean soccer

Holland has won the Gold on:

first - Women 4x100 or 200 relay... thingy with swimming
second - Something on a rowboat with two women on it
third - Marianne Vos Cycling (track) Women's Points Race
fourth - Anky van Grunsven Dressage Individual Grand Prix Freestyle (horse thingy)
fifth - Maarten van der Weijden Long distance (10km) outdoor swimming (this is the cancer survivor I was talking about)
sixth - Water polo women

I think they should not have football. I also want to banish soccer and tennis. They get enough attention as it is.

That is very good. I only said football because the USA would sweep that event

Just like the USA would sweep the basketball competition in the 2004 olympics but lost in the semi finals against Argentina? I'm just saying...

Touchι! Basketball has been a worldwide sport (not huge) but none the less worldwide sport for a while. Football on the other hand hasn't...I don't think. Well look at baseball. I would say that Japan overall could possibly be better at baseball than the US at times.

I just saw an interview with his royal highness prince Willem-Alexander, our presumed king to be and esteemed IOC-member. He said that the IOC is looking for sports that are universal. They're looking into golf (yuck :s I hate golf) for 2016 because it is very popular in Asia. American (pussy-)football (why use protection and padding? Be real men and play proper rugby!) is really only played in the USA, and though there is (or was?) a european league, it's really not universal.

Personally I'm more of a traditionalist. I like BMX as a fresh neon-sport, but that's about it. I like the things we've seen since 1896. Except ofcourse the 200 meter obstacle course at the SWIM competition (no joke!)
