Other Cars

Chris and I got on a tangent about F-bodies a few days back and it made me think, we know what kinds of Ferraris the member have here, but what other cars are in your garage? Be it daily drivers, projects, hobbies, cars besides ferraris that you love? Right now I have a '92 Chevy Suburban and a '99 GMC Suburban that are for work purposes. I'm in the process of finding something a bit small and better on the checkbook as far as fuel goes.

I always have 2 or 3 different cars, and change them regularly. I currently have a Oct 2006 Merc C220 Diesel Estate and am very bored with it. Since I sold my Audi Cabriolet and 328 GTS I'm missing having an open car. I'm considering buying a Mazda MX-5 (Miata in the US) as a fun open top driver that's cheap to run. The Merc estate will probably go and be replaced with a family MPV/SUV. My wife has had a Nissan Micra for 5 months and done less than 100 miles in it, so there's no point her having a car, she can use the family MPV when she needs a car.
Target date for a F355 GTS is mid 2009

Archie,
You just got the MB and you are already bored with it? I told you to save your pennies and buy a VW for the short term. You could have been just as bored with that for $20k less. For the Miata, I was actually considering getting one of those for my wife. Either that or an S2000. I see you are leaning towards a 355 now instead of a 550?

My other cars are an '82 Jeep CJ7, a '69 Kaiser (Jeep) Commando, a '99 Mercedes E-300 and an '06 Chevy Silverado 4x4.

Plus I've got 2 sailboats, a Polaris 4-wheeler and a Toro lawn tractor.

The Merc is just too boring for me, I have always had sporty or open cars for my daily drivers, the MB is just too old manish. We do need a practical family car for when we take the kids out or go on vacation, so I'm looking at Mazda 5 MPV's at the moment.

But knowing me, I'll get bored with whatever I buy in 3 months, change them again and lose another ton of cash in depreciation

I'm leaning more towards a F355, as I've always loved them and with the GTS the roof comes out. I do like the 550 but it's a fixed head, and I can't afford a Barchetta

A 355? I bet you'd love it, Archie. A buddy I work with has a Miati and other than me having trouble fitting in the front seat, it's a pretty nice car, but isn't as sporty and quick as some may make it seem. After all, they only have a 1.8 L engine. But then again, some of them have turbos and the car is very very light.

Other cars,...here's the list and my biased reasons: '97 Mercedes SL600 V12...super smooth as electric car w/ power & comfort; '94 AMG E60 my only 4 door family sedan w/ perfect balance and power; '62 Porsche 356B Super...because it is a time capsule and the driving experience is one of a kind; '94 Porsche Flatnose Exclusive S...only 10 made for Japan and about 150 for the rest of the world; '97 RUF Turbo R (called THR in Japan) based on Porsche Turbo S...absolute rocket; and last but not the least, '58 Abarth 750GT Zagato "Double Bubble" simply because of the looks. I am sure I am in my midst of midlife crisis ??? Jimmy

Change of plan, the Mazda MX5 (miata) is too slow, I've found a 2003 Honda S2000 which I'm test driving tomorrow.

I've heard a lot of good things about the S2000. I might pick one up myself.

Oh no! If you and Archie buy the S2000s than there won't be any left for me in 2 years ;-)

Very impressive, are these all owned by you?

Oh and Archie, I told you the MX-5 wasn't all that quick. I haven't heard much about the S2000 though.

No, we all have finite money. Don't worry about it. You are still young in your career. Work hard, concentrate on your job, live frugally and within 5 years you will be making money faster than you can spend it. You are on the right track (and in the right industry).

considering petrol prices, we're definitely in the right industry! hehehehe

the good thing is that I already make more than I spend, but having received only 2 salaries I can't exactly afford a Ferrari, you know?

still, these guys here have such incredible garages that really makes me wonder how can someone achieve such high level

for now, I'm happy to know that you exist, that shows that dreams do come true
