from what i hear v1 is the best, escort passport is also very good but also expensive. i have a 2 year old bel 745i? cant remember the bel is a good detector overall i get some false alarms but it was only $80 on ebay( 150+ retail if i remember correctly) check ebay you might get a deal on one. maybe a used v1 for a good price

go to www.radartest.com . it has lots of info on the leading detectors on the market. from what i have read and seen in my own research is that the escort 8500 is the better of the two (V1). whats makes the valentine 1 good is the arrows. but the passport 8500 is a bit more sensative and has a longer range in some bands. the passport also has a filter to block out more false signals. and the fact that the passport ranks higher than the valentine 1 and costs $100 less is nice also. but it just comes down to what you want. remember detectors do not make you ticket proff. they just give you another tool to work with. there are alot of times that you can still get nailed even with a detector. you just have to know when its a good time to speed and when to blend with the rest of the sheep. btw i am picking up a passport 8500 when i get paid next week.
