Proof Microsoft sucks and Linux rules

OK now it is my turn to post a non-Ferrari topic. I hate Microsoft and would love to see the industry change. Here is proof that it sucks. This in an e-mail to me today:

Subject: Massive Internet-wide Worm Attack Alert

Dear Valued Customer,

In the past 12/24 hours, the Internet has experienced a massive attack by a worm hitting hundreds of data centers and trying to exploit a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 vulnerability. Even though none of our servers is exploitable, the traffic and packets caused by this worm has still caused long downtimes to all of the networks on which our servers are connected to. Some servers have been back up within 2-4 hours, others are still slowly coming back to normal.

None of our servers have been compromised or have experienced any data loss at all, as we are running RedHat Linux as the operating system, not Windows.

This was not a hit onto IMHosted servers only, however against the entire Internet and its backbones. Several major websites, including Yahoo, EBay and CNN have experienced serious outages this past night and early morning.

News Story:

Note:none of our servers are exploitable

Here here!

I work at an ISP and this silly MS SQL worm cost me my Friday night and Saturday morning. We had to resort to filtering UDP on the appropriate ports to keep BGP from flapping.

Ok, so it's gonna break MS SQL servers that need to connect across the 'Net, but really, they should've patched their servers.

I was too tired to do the coolant flush I'd planned for Saturday.

Actually, both. The FF logo was made on a Mac and some of the code. But most was on Slackware Linux using Emacs.

I only mention it cos there's a "Made on a Mac" sticker on the legal page.

BTW, which do you consider to be the "Ferrari" of computers?
I'd say the latest G4 comes close, but then again, i've been a Mac user since '88... so i'm biased ;-)
