The Star Spangled Banner

Friends, I have long been offended by most public renditions of the national anthem. The overwhelming majority are sung by "entertainers" who think of it as an opportunity to "express" themselves in a disgusting rendition, slurring, sliding, shrieking, mispronouncing the lyrics, usually singing incorrect notes and making what to me is an obscene spectacle. IT'S NOT A BALLAD! If it must be a singer and not a band, let her 'sing it straight'. I just now happened on the obituary of Kurt Masur, a very great conductor who was music director of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. It led me to a Youtube of Masur leading the Orchestra in a magnificent rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. This actually had me in tears.

Here's the url:

I hate that "singers" pay to sing at lots of games

Also the fact that Military bands have been charged to show their Patriotism at sporting events

THAT is the way it is supposed to be done. I will say that although I am 100% behind you on this, when it was done at the Super Bowl in Tampa Bay by Whitney Houston, she broke away a little bit but it still kicked arse...
