Modena restaurant reccommendations, please

We are heading for Modena next month to collect the new Maserati and staying for a few days to see the sights. Any recommendations for places to eat there?

Best wishes, John

Antica Moka.
Let me repeat:
ANTICA MOKA
If you find a better restaurant in Modena, I'll pay for your dinner

E-mail Sandro, let him know you're coming
You'll think you died and went to food heaven.
I promise.

John, David will pay for your dinner if you manage to get into Osteria Francescana, 3 Michelin star restaurant owned by the fabulous Massimo Bottura. Osteria Francescana - L'osteria di Massimo Bottura.

There is a great documentary series about world famous restaurants on Netflix. The story of Osteria Francescana is told in episode 1 and I found it absolutely fascinating.

To be fair I have not eaten there but I will definitely go there in future.

Onno

P.S. I see reservations possible from December, so David you lucked out there.

BTW John, when exactly are you there? I will also be in Italy in September, perhaps we could meet up for a drink.

Onno,

We'll be there too, starting on the 24th!
Venezia, Verona, Modena, Firenza.
Please send me a PM and let's see if our programs are compatible.
It would be an honor to meet you!

Sounds fantastic David, and would be great to meet you. Unfortunately I will be in Germany that week, with many friends from FerrariLife, as we have another FLED. The week before I'll be trying to relax in a cottage in the Mugello valley, but in all likelihood working my ass off on the laptop... Don't know what it is this year...

Thanks Fabio, I'll make a note of them!

BTW, I had lunch at Villa La Massa near Firenze two weeks ago and again it was fantastic (but expensive). Lovely to sit at the Arno. The next day we were at a trattoria in Tuscania where there the menu was a talking nonna and the meal including wine was 26 for two....

Italy really is the land of contrasts and you can still find a great meal for very little money.

Good morning David, Onno, Fabio,

Thanks very much for all your suggestions - very helpful. Shame about Osteria Francescana: Massimo Botura's reputation is indeed awesome, but I guess one has to plan ahead to get to eat there. I should have booked the table when I ordered the car!

We are arriving in Modena on 10th. September to collect the car on the 11th., meeting up with the current owner of my old Land Rover who lives in Modena on 12th., staying until 13th. or 14th. Plans thereafter are still a a bit fluid, but I am afraid we have to be back in the UK in good time for the start of my daughter's first term at university, so we shall be gone before you get there, David. We may be heading for Tuscany for a few days after Modena, Onno, but not sure yet - when are you going to be in Mugello?

Two recommendations from our last visit to Italy earlier this month, if anyone is going to be heading for the north west coast of Tuscany: La Barca in Forte dei Marmi and Enoteca Marcucci in Pietrasanta.

Best wishes, John

John, I was thinking we could have lunch or a coffee in Modena on the 13th, on our way to Mugello. I'll need to check our key collection for the cottage but it should work out OK I think. If amenable, then I will let you know.

Thanks for the recommendations in Tuscany, will add them to the file! Well, what I mean is, I really do need to start a file!

Is hard for me to take frequently free time, also for few days ...

That sounds good to me, Onno. My only problem is that other plans which are still in the making mean that we may have to leave Modena on the morning of the 13th. and I may not know for certain for a week or two yet. However, let's make a provisional plan to meet for lunch on 13th. and confirm nearer the time. I fancy trying one of Fabio's suggestions, probably Arnaldo's (I am planning to try your suggestion, David, for dinner on 11th.) - would that suit you?

Best wishes, John

John, you don't happen to be a Pink Floyd fan by any chance (a man with your taste, surely you are!)? I have two tickets burning a hole in my pocket for David Gilmour in Florence, on the 15th.

Booked Antika Moka for Friday evening - looking forward to a dinner fit to celebrate the acquisition of the new Maserati.

Flying out tomorrow via Bologna, dinner with our Ferrari / Maserati agent (who has organised and is accompanying us on the trip - 5* service from Carrs of Exeter, who are nothing short of brilliant!) at La Secchia Rapita in Modena.

Collect car and VIP Tour of Maserati factory on Friday morning and visit to Museo Enzo Ferrari in the afternoon.

Meeting up with the owner of my old Land-Rover, who lives in Modena, for a tour of the city, lunch and visit to his wife's balsamico factory on Saturday and just about to book one of Fabio's reccommendations for dinner on Saturday.

Leaving Modena on Sunday for a week of sun (hopefully) and sea in Marina di Pietrasanta, punctuated by a flying visit to Florence to join Onno for the David Gilmore concert on Tuesday, then home to the UK via two stops in France.

Should be a good trip

Best wishes, John
