Aston Martin

Hi All

I added another dimension to my collection last week. An Aston Martin Vantage 4.3. It is a manual with low mileage. I wasn't really in the market for one but I stumbled across this car and after driving it was taken with it.

It is dynamically far better than I expected and apart from the Ford Fiesta key, feels quite special. It is so different from all the other cars I have and as such gives me another element of variety.

Interestingly it is the first car I have owned that my wife didn't go mental about when I brought it home...

The one picture is from Sunday when I went to fill up. A DB9 was filling up at the same time...

Warm regards

Mike

What a beauty! Congratulations Mike, I wish you good health, happiness and safety driving in her. Most of the blue chip marques have gathered in your stable. Variety is the spice of life, nice one!

Mike, congrats on your decision and she looks like a beauty.

I do see AM in the streets of Tokyo and they sound very special. If my understanding is not wrong (which often is), a Japanese engineer or mechanic at AM worked on that exhuast note (?). Not sure how true that is.

I can understand your intuition longing for variations and AM would certainly check the box there.

Enjoy and do let us know your impressions as you bond to your AM.

w/ smiles

Hi Mike,
compliment to the choice, you have nice taste ....
I love the AM design, they are elegant and, "in a certain sense, like the Maranello's ...
Before bought my Maranello i think a lot to an DB9, but at the end i prefer the sporty 550/575, in the future an AM would be a nice companion garage
For sure you will be enjoy to drive ....
Best Regards

Fabio

Thanks for the comments gents

My view on the AM is that it is a lot of car for the money. It certainly doesn't have the feel or soul of Ferrari...

On the Ferrari side, I am in lust with the 458 and I want to look to get one next! Garage space is now a serious problem though...

Very nice. I have often thought of an Aston, but for one reason or another have never owned one. I hope you enjoy it.

I am looking very seriously at a Maserati at the moment - driven by a need for 4 seats.

Best wishes, John

Fabulous, Mike! Always loved the styling of the V8 Vantage, and epic sound track. How is servicing in RSA?

Thanks Onno. There is an agent here bit they are ostensibly simple cars. Chain driven cams, manual gearbox so hopefully it will be reliable.

On the Maserati side, the Granturismo is really useable. I have been a passenger in the rear and although I am not tall (1.81m), I was really comfortable. The DB9 is very pretty but I suspect the rear seats are pretty useless.

As an alternative, the 996 has rear seats and an anomaly with most of the South African 996 GT3s is that whilst it doesn't have rear seats, it has rear seat belts. This means that there is actually more space than in the standard 996. The rear seatbelts can be easily retro fitted to the GT3.

Congratulations on the new addition to a magnificent stable.

I had an AMV8 as a daily driver for a little over a year some time back and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The design is also magnificent.

Enjoy in good health!
