Goodwood Member's Meeting
I attended the "73rd." Members' Meeting at Goodwood Last weekend - BRILLIANT!
God drive up in the 550: first real outing this year and she drove like a dream.
This was how Goodwood was meant to be. No queue to get into the car park. No queue to get out. Try doing that at the FoS or the Revival Meeing in anything but a helicopter. No fancy dress. No crowds. 99.9% unrestricted access to all areas. No long delays between races. Just fantastic, ultra-competitive racing and some rare and fabulous machinery (mostly driven by their owners - comparatively few hired jockeys, but a few stars just to add a touch of spice).
There were many highlights, but there was one which illustrates just how close the racing was and how nobody can afford to make the smallest mistake at any stage of the race. In one of the single-seater races, this guy led from the start to within a few yards of the finish line. Going into the chicane for the final time, he braked a tad too hard, locked a wheel and this upset the balance of the car going through it. The second place man, who had been breathing down his neck, carried his momentum through the chicane and in the sprint for the finish line he just managed to pull alongside and then got no more than his nose ahead - he won by 0.18 second after a 20 minute race. :yikes:
Links to a couple of videos below. Amazing incident about 5.00 minutes into the first one: if you didn't see it on film, you would not believe it.
Thanks for posting the vids John, would have loved to have been there for this spectacle, fantastic to see these beautiful racing cars from every era giving it the beans!
