New Toy - ATV

Well, I did it again. I justified to my wife the purchase of something we've done just fine without for all these years.

I just bought a brand new 4-wheeler. It's a Polaris twin-cylinder, fuel injected, 700 cc, four-wheel-drive model with a 2,500 lb winch and automatic transmission. I also got the optional snow plow so I can sell the Commando to help defray some of the cost. (hence the justification to the wife)

Before you comment on the redneck Mossy Oak paint scheme, I wanted a red one but the dealer had this 2004 model still in the crate and gave it to me for his cost.

It's cool. It's got a bit more giddy-up than my buddy's 500cc carburetted model. The first thing I did when I picked it up was to drive it up into the
back of the truck and straight into the truck's rear window. Guess what I'm doing tomorrow? Yeah, that and I'll also be making some wheel stops for the bed of the truck.

Yeah, '96 Ram 2500 SLT with the Cummins Turbo Diesel. The thing will pull a house. And for a 3/4 ton 4x4 it still gets 20mpg.

She was like, "Boy, I'm glad I didn't do that."
I was like, "Yeah, that would have been worse."

It's not that I'm an idiot, it's just that I sometimes do idiotic things. You would have loved the look on my face when I did that. Driving your brand new ATV through the back window of your truck isn't something you can just brush off and pretend like you meant to do it. :green: :green:

At any rate. Just got the new rear window put in this morning. I ended up with a tinted window with a middle section that slides open. Cost $286 installed. I like it better than the old window so some good did come out of it. Maybe now the dog will sit in the back seat and hang her head out the rear window. I was getting pretty tired of her sitting on my lap and having to fight over who gets the honor of hanging their head out the driver's window.

BTW - they said to leave the tape on for 2 days until the sealant cures.

Well it stopped raining and I took the ATV out for a tour of the yard. Here's what I hope is a better pic.

AMEN Brother! I think we all fit that statement.

And...a sliding rear window is the only way to go on a truck. How else are you to throw your drink cans in the bed while driving?

Yeah, it's more powerful than I thought. It won't lift the front tires off the ground but I did leave 2 nice strips of rubber in the driveway. :green: (actually 4 strips, 2 starting at the beginning of the driveway and 2 stopping at the end of the driveway.)

Too bad there isn't a picture of your face :P You're probably right... it would have cracked me up And not just me I imagine :green: Still... pretending you meant to do that would be the ultimate of "cool". "Yeah honey... I know the window is broken but I wanted to install a new 250+ dollar window anyways so it's no problem"

But it's a lovely toy. Too bad you can't do a wheelie (yet) but dumping rubber is also pretty cool.

Well, I've had the thing for a few days now. I've got 6 miles on it and I still haven't left the yard. I've used it to haul brush, move timbers and just plain ride around. My neighbor owns all the land behind me up the hill and gave me permission to drive it on his land also! I cut a trail this evening.

As you know full well Pete, there was a witness when you broke the window, I remeber very clearly you turning to me a saying, "Guess what I just did", and I was right, the cost of the ATV went up a couple of hundred $'s
