70th anniversary of kamikaze attack on my old ship U.S.S. Intrepid

Seventy years ago today, within a few minutes of each other two Zeros stuffed with explosives struck my old ship the attack carrier U.S.S. Intrepid (I was ship's company twelve years later) killing 89 of her crew. Another attack on October 29 had hit a gun tub killing 10. Sobering. R.I.P.

Very sad, we lost some great heroes. It's nice of you to honor the ship and your shipmates. RIP. And thank you for serving Seth.

thanks, Al; important to remember. I know there'll be other friends who comment here; to them also my thanks, so as not to repeat

So true Al:

My roommate was killed in the Pentagon on 9/11.
His memorial is right outside the building so I get to visit him every week.

A kid three years ahead of me in High School is listed on the Vietnam wall in DC
Unfortunately, I don't get to see him as often.

There's too many of my other colleagues to list.

Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most.

I lost two fellow Huey pilots who graduated ahead of my class and were shot down in 'Nam. I don't take my freedom lightly. These guys are the true heroes. I might visit Arlington Cemetery this weekend.

Al, your post reminds me that my brother, who was my law partner in NYC after we had both finished our active duty service, did his time in the 3rd United States Infantry Regiment, 'The Old Guard'. If he were still alive I'm pretty certain he could tell you exactly how many paces he had taken in standing guard duty at Arlington National Cemetery.

Thx

Thanks for your service Sir. Its to bad the country you fought so hard for, is being run into the ground by a dip shit community organizer and a congress full of left wing pinko communists,,,I watch WW2 shows on History channel,,and Im amazed at the courage of all the brave servicemen , I dont think I would have had the balls to do what you and your fellows did. I try and give back some,,Im a volunteer at the Long Beach VA, I escort VETS to and from their doctors visits, and I secretary a CA meeting at the West La VA the second Monday of every month, for VETs with drug and alcohol problems. They are very appreciative of the speakers I bring in to share their experience, strength . and hope....Happy Thanksgiving....Brett Lucca

Very cool Seth, it amazing that they stand guard through a hurricane, no less.

Lucca, thanks for all the respect and helping the vets.

During the Vietnam war, it was not chic to be on active duty. I never wore my uniform off the base. It was a much different era; little to no respect for the military, especially for the guys who sacrificed their lives. Taz probably has some stories.

How this country managed to elect a community organizer POTUS (twice, no less) befuddles me to no end.
