Hey, Peter.

My son is working for the Alaska Highway people. They have ferries. He was made the Safety Mate. He does not like it. They gave him a bomb detector to check the cars, which come on the ferry. He told me he does not understand how to use the equipment. They told him to just fake it.

Homeland Security. Great.

Well at least he has his foot in the door and is making money until something better comes along.

Has he looked into Transocean or is he not interested in the oil field?
My Rig Manager was just saying how he was thinking about hiring a Dynamic Positioning Operator Trainee. It's not huge bucks but you are pretty much guaranteed promotion within 3-6 months and the work is a lot more interesting than pretending to be checking for bombs.

All he wants is to get clock time so he gets his second mate's license. He tells me an oil rig does not count toward his time. It that true?

It actually counts time and a half. We work 12 hour days so the Coast Guard considers each day worked as 1.5 sea days.

Yesterday, I deposited my sonís first check into his bank account. After this one, it will be automatic. My young son, just 22, had a deposit of $2,888.88 into his checking. It was for a half month.

Yipes, if I had had that type of income when I was his age, God help the world.

Yeah but don't forget Bart, he is gone that whole time doing a job he hates. That is why the pay is so good.

I can see why you are happy. 1 - He's making good money. 2 - He's GONE. :green: :green:

What I tell my guys when they complain: There's a reason why you are paid to do this. If it was fun and easy, they wouldn't call it work.
