A Plane, some power lines, & My 550.

My wife was driving my 550 south on I-5 today about 10 miles before Harris Ranch. This is in the Great Valley of California. I was seating in the passenger seat. All of a sudden, an airplane flew passed the car at about 25 feet and maybe 30 feet to the right of my car. It was going the same way as the car. I thought it was going to land on the freeway. It did not. I saw some power lines ahead of us. The plane tried to go under the lines but the tail cut the power lines. The lines dropped across the freeway. There were sparks flying around. My wife just drove across the down power lines. The plane after cutting the lines climbed up and away.

My son who was driving his van about two-three miles behind us said there was a bush fire started by the power lines.

Wow!!!

Must have been scary for that pilot...

Lucky he got control and you're wife didn't lost it!

Whoa!!!

My friends uncle had to land his 2 person plane on a highway at night once. What an experience that would be!

No, surprising not! He had never done it before, but knew what to do if it ever happened. He landed safely

The pilot (& any passengers) was lucky he didn't get killed - in that situation most do. He shouldn't have a licence.

Bart, I know if you were driving you would have dropped a couple of gears, caught-up with the plane and given the pilot a real ear-bashing for putting The Beast in danger! :green:
