Finally, I Got My First Car

At the age of 15, I am now the proud owner of a 2000 Ford focus! I bought it off of my work for cheap. Has a blown SOHC 'SPI" in her now but it's soon to have an upgraded DOHC zetec. I will also be switching from a auto transmission to manual.

I look forward to eventually building her up to be a rally car., but in the mean time I'm happy with it the way it is..

It was a ball getting her loaded on the flatbed trailer though! We rented a flatbed car hauler, found out my dad and I couldn't push it by ourselves, so we recuirted some crossfiters to help out. We had it half way up the ramps when, "click......thud" the hitch came right off the ball....yup they told us it was a 2" ball it was really 2&7/16th. So, needless to say it was a very slow and uneventful trip home. I guess it only kicks off when you have 3,000lbs balancing on the tail!

Cutter, great looking one. If I am not mistaken, Focus was made in UK for EU market. Great choice for a starter, and believe me, at your age you are way, way ahead of myself and few others.

Congratulations Cutter: I wish I had your mechanical skills when i was a teenager. Buying your first car is an awesome feeling, which must be even more so when you have the ability to transform the car to suit your dreams. My first car was a 1975 Ford Thunderbird, which I purchased for $2100 USD. She had 60K miles on the odometer and was the mechanical love of my life for many years.

Cheers.

Thanks Jimmy. You wold be correct. EU/UK got the RS mk1, Which is a bummer because the RS parts are very desirable upgrades here in the US.

I'm sure there are! Also a chance my neighbor will be giving me his 1937 chevy 3/4 ton factory flatbed inline 6 pickup truck. It's rough but would make a fun slow project.

How true, Doug. In my case it was a red Mini (perhaps this would make the basis for an interesting thread?).

Having said that, I think it is fair to say that I have vivid memories of all the cars I have owned (44 to date, plus 5 bikes).

Best wishes, John

Cutter good car. My wife had a 2001 when we first stated dating that had the big engine in it. Great fun to drive with a set of z rated tires on it.

congrats man great little commuter/first car my girlfriend had one and drove the wheels off it with regular maintenance and repairs (seemed to need quite a few but at least they were cheap and easy) I ended up owning a 2010 and a 2012 which have been great also

Thanks. Yeah maintenance is cheap. I'll be putting a timing belt in the swap engine just to be safe. Also so fairly cheap to upgrade since they made the SVT version..... lots of parts!

I'd like to get Z's on her. But no one make Z tires for my stock 15's!
If anyone has a set of 16+ inch 4x108 wheels sitting around let me know!
