Advice appreciated.

Looking to buy the wife a Rapide or Panam - the only two for consideration.

Experience?

Doug- No experience, but you already know which one is prettier and which one is more reliable. For a wife-car, the latter is way more important.

Good point.

When I look on cars.com there are 149 white Panams vs 2 white Rapides. If she hates it after winter will have to give it away to sell.

Aston has been making the same thing for years - one would think they could figure out a wiring harness.

I would always prefer to drive the Aston. I don't like the Panamera's looks...I didn't like how it drives either, but that is maybe because I've tested only the S Hybrid and not the Turbo or maybe because the last car I drove before it was the latest S500...no idea. Porsches are german and german cars tend to be indestructible. No experience with the Aston, but it's 10 times "cooler" I almost melt every time I see it. There's only one here in Bulgaria, I think. And many Panameras. I don't know how many are there in your location, but the Porsches must be more common as well. The Aston may attract too much unwanted attention and that's almost never a good thing. Just some thoughts.

Definitely a "head or heart" decision: you know you ought to buy the Porsche, but you also know you want to buy the Aston!

Best wishes, John

Tsvetan - for a good laugh watch top gear on the comparison of the Pan Mas Rap

Blue Bottle - if any of us thought with our head vs heart we wouldn't be here

Boxer - the Maser is out but it was a thought as was the Tesla. Colors / options that the Pan and Rap offer are the best fit.

Killer - she wants the hatch / fold down seats.

Calling some dealers tomorrow - if I can't steal one of 2 Astons see below will look for a Panam Executive.
Had this combo on the Bentley SS very clean.

In that case why are you even thinking of the Porsche?

Thanks, Doug! Just watched it! Haha
By the way, most of the guys that I was on the Porsche Road Tour a couple of months ago, shared the same opinion about the looks of the Pan. To be honest, it's not THAT ugly, but compared to the Aston....
Shit...I would ignore the head and listen to the heart and buy the Aston. That car's a dream. As for reliability, luck plays a big role in it. If you've got no luck, you can get a new Porsche that breaks up all the time, just like this guy and his 911 - Porsche 911 991 issues: UPDATE: Porsche and I have reached a solution - YouTube

John - it's for the wife the Pan Executive offers more back seat leg room AWD.

Tsvetan - Porsche would be new or lightly used the dealers are close. Drop it off and get a loaner vs the Aston 2010 2011 maybe 2012.

It's not that bad it's just become funny more than anything else - the Aston looks are that good.

Doug- Explain the differences to your wife and let her make the choice. If she chooses the Aston knowing it is likely to break more often, no sweat. When it breaks, fix it and she can drive one of your other cars. You are not like Jan and me with only two cars, so hers has to work (GL 550).

Terry - you are spot on at 20k miles a year. Wife has driven my car once in 9 years she always says ... nope!

Aston sells 1200 cars vs Porsche 45000 in the US fair to say they don't have the R&D Porsche does.

GL550 would be great ... the more I do the math the worst this gets.

I'd like either. They both look great in white.

Maybe a coin toss is in order. Let fate decide. If you are both unhappy with the result, then choose the other.

David.

P.S. My wife is angling for a black range rover sport (just to be different heh). My strategy is to agree wholeheartedly and then subtly change the subject. So far it's working.

David- Black car in Melbourne would not seem to pass the smell test, or is it cooler there than I think?

Yeah Taz, pretty temperate here. Probably 4 weeks per year need the house A/C on, 10 weeks per year need the heater on and the rest is in between.

+1

Doug, Why so short a list? Are the rear seats going to get used all that much? They aren't that comfortable in these types of cars and access/egress is often unceremonious at best, difficult at worst. The Rapide seats are a bit clostrophobic with a very high centre tunnel.

Isn't there a four door coupe style MB which could be in AMG guise?

Not the worst dilemma in the world, but interesting all the same.

Cheers
Michael
