Bridgehampton 1957

Some great early color film of Bridgehampton on Long Island, now a golf course.

Film Friday: Classic racing in living color at Bridgehampton - Autoweek

Every day I look around, and if nobody is shooting at me, it is a pretty good day.

oh my, does that take me back, Taz! I first ran the Bridge, I want to say in the early or mid-1960's. And my TR-3 was in D-production like that Austin-Healey. Although I could not stay with a really well-driven Healey, there were a fair number of them that I could and did beat. Twas the sand, always the sand, that differentiated Bridgehampton from all other circuits.

Terry, thanx !

Wish I could say things like "brings back memories", but in honesty, it is as if watching a classic movie of yesteryears of innocence without stifling regulations and safety red tapes. Indeed, those were brave souls, they seem.

Seth- I helped out at the old Bottomless Lakes road course using public highways near Roswell, NM in 1966 while attending NMMI. Long, long straights, with the high power stuff running near redline in top gear for long periods of time. Lots of interesting cars and any crash was serious because of the speeds. Defunct for a long time now. Not sure when the last race took place, but believe it may have been in 1967 after an Alfa driver fatality and quite a few others off the course badly.

Jimmy, to tell the truth, it seems to me also like watching a classic yesteryear movie, even if I was in it!! that's what has to happen if one is an old phart!

Seth, in my book, there is no such thing as an old f~rt, we all age gracefully to our limits. How divine it would be if I could claim that I was in it too ? That is not negativity but something to be proud of.

Something about the whole thing, the air or atmosphere ? Just seems so care free and innocent relative to where we are now. Truly the golden age of US, those years in the 50s into 60s, IMHO.

I very much so enjoyed that. Thanks for posting. I found myself freeze framing looking for a glimpse of my father who died in 63 at Lime Rock. I have faint memories of weekends at the Bridge. Specifically one were I'm mimicking my father and his Pabst while I drink a can of Motts apple juice. I was young...(born in 60) . Anyone remember dad? Lee Baker...drove a sunbeam...later became Flag Marshall for SCCA NY region.

Lane, was your dad racing at Lime Rock in 1957? I was at the first race that summer and somewhere have a bunch of photos I took. If I can find them and find a Sunbeam (Alpine?), we ought to meet at Lime Rock some time this summer and I'll bring them
