If not Ferrari, why post in the Ferrari discussion section?

Very cool, though, thanks.

Steve- Affirmative, even though most of my time (2000+ hrs F-111) was in the more sophisticated digital F-111D and F-111F, I have a couple hundred hours in the analog F-111A and very similar F-111E.

Best place for posts like this is the Drivers' Lounge. Since I usually use New Posts here, I barely notice where something is posted.

A good friend of mine was a WSO in the F-4 ... he is 6-2 and he admits that he had to be shoe horned in the back seat.

I, on the other hand, spent all my time in USAF on the ground ... working on nukes That is why people say I am so bright ... I glow in the dark.

John- WSO in the right seat, so I was doing the weapons work. All F-111s, except the EF-111A I never flew, were dual control, so a lot of stick time for me.

Steve- I have multiple sorties in the RF-4C and the F-4G, am 5' 7" and it seemed like a tight fit to me back there, with my helmet hitting the canopy occasionally. No idea how the big guys fitted into the rear seat. Unlike the F-15 and F-16 I was also lucky enough to fly, where the cockpits are huge. All are fun to fly and I got stick time in all of them.

Taz,

I have close friend who stayed in AF after I left. He applied and was accepted by AF to get his engineering degree and was commissioned officer when he finished. He wanted to be pilot, but had opportunity to be WSO and accepted it. He remained in AF until retirement and WSO for good portion. I never had any flight time in F4, but did on occasion get back in there and sit down for a bit. For the life of me, I have no idea how John (6'-2" and 210 lbs) was able to fit back there. I am 6-1, and back then weighed 180 and when I tried on the F4, I then knew why the AF suggested that you should be under 5-10 to fly in the F4.

My brother works for Boeing as EE on the F15E ... I was able to get in F15 cockpit (and F16) and they are much more roomy.
