I saw a shocking documentary a couple days back, where they did exactly that to a 412 (but it has a chevy V8 under the hood).
Watched in horror as they literally sawed the car to bits.
Then the most shocking bit, they turned up at Autofficina (a reasonably well known Ferrari specialist in UK) and lined up all the mechanics to see the "unveiling" and they all dutifully clapped and said it was very nice and then to add insult to injury one of the sales guys said it was probably now worth GBP 60-70K.
I sh1t you not.
Couldn't believe that a reputable specialist would put themselves out there on national TV with that kind of exposure....
Ferrari's: 360 Modena, 550 Maranello
Ex's: Dino 308 GT4, 612 Scaglietti
The Rest: Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, Porsche 911 2.7s, Porsche 911 3.2 Carerra, Ducati 916... and the Land Rovers
I wanted to be revolted.
But when you look at the condition of the car at the beginning, you realize it was DOA.
So it was never going to be properly restored.
Given that, its best fate was as a parts car.
So given the choice; freak show or parts, I can't honestly say one is worse than the other.
Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most.
