what was Lucas thinking?

I just got the new box set of Star Wars on DVD. WTF? He added scenes to the movies. It is so lame, it isn't the original big screen on DVD. It was suttle and most won't catch them unless they've see these movies a 1000 times. Some of the biggest ones I noticed:

Empire Strikes Back: beginning when Luke is captured by a snow monster, it shows the monster in detail eating

Return of the Jedi: jabba the hut scene, they added a whole song and dance scene (very bad too I might add).

Ending has celebrations from cities all over the world (as if they were in the fight too).

Ending with the Eewalks shows, Wedge, Lando and a few other X-Wing pilots celebrating with them. Also in this scene there is a different Ankin Skywalker ghost than before.

What gives? I got dupped, don't waste your money.

WTF are you talking about? They've added those a few years ago for the THX remastered series.

Oh... Just being nerdy here (Yes... I've seen those movies hundreds of times)

It's:

- Jabba the Hutt (dubble T)

- Ewoks (Not eewalks)

- The different cities celebration is AWESOME !!!

- Don't tell me you missed the complete new scene with Jabba and Han (where Han steps on Jabba's tail)

And then to think that I love Star TREK even more :P

Save me please! Now we've got grown men arguing about Star Wars!

Anyway, what about the joke sneaker-shoe fighter in the background? Is that on the DVD?

I actually skipped "A New Hope" and went stait to V. Then I came back to the IV after this post and yes I saw that new scene. There were also some added clips when they (Luke and Obi Won (sp?)) first enter the city.

How can you say the celebration was awesome? It is all CG! I think the original Star Wars are way better looking than the new. The models clearly worked better than all the new CG IMO.

4kids3fish,

I missed the shoe, where is it in the movie and which movie?

Dirk,
Come on, its Star Wars! No geeky stuff there

Re the shoe, I've never seen it but I've read several pieces over the years referring to it.

I'm pretty sure it is in the 2nd movie ("Empire Strikes Back"??), and is during a dogfight between X-wings and the bad guys. It is only ever in the background and off to one side, so you don't ever focus on it unless you're looking for it. It's a regular white basketball sneaker-shoe, sized the same as a starfighter, and was an "in-house" joke at the time.

Happy hunting! :green:

Andrew I know you've seen these:

For those of you who don't get American TV, there is a show called Cops here in the US where camera men just follow officers on patrol and record the goings on. Great program. Just hillarious watching them deal with stupid drunk people. Sometimes the cops are hillarious to watch as well.

You have quite a few Star Treks to submit as the best... STNG? That'd be my vote. It's kind of like comparing apples to oranges though.

I asked or you don't know more nerdy stuff about star wars. Everything that comes up gets linked to that stuff, so in that case you disappointed me

I agree with Charles, apples vs orange here. Plus Star Trek started as a TV show...it has no end. Star Wars was a clear story from beginning to end from Lucas's mind.

My fav ST is DS9. Awesome politics and finger-licking-good battle scenes.

But the main difference between ST and SW is the fact that ST is Science Fiction and that Wars is Fantasy.

The second biggest difference is the fact that ST is WAY WAY WAY WAY cooler than Wars :P Even if it compares apples to oranges. I like apples better anyway

There is only one ST and that is the original with Kurt, Spock, Doc, and Scotty. The second series was pretty good too, but I've only seen the movies. I'm not much of a TV person.

Who's Kurt ??

And yes... DS9 is my favorite because there was major political stuff there. Far better than in TOS or TNG.

Besides... DS9 had Dax in a TOS-miniskirt and a bathingsuit. That's simple genius of the writers. And season 7 brought Ezri. She is too darn cute

DS9 also had the better (and larger) space battles that were pure eye-candy.

And after all... it's just a matter of opinion which I like best. After all... I never said DS9 was better than TOS. Which it isn't by the way.

Ok, here I go showing off my geekiness. It is not Kurk, it is Kirk. As in Captain James T. Kirk.

P.S. the T. stands for Tiberius

James T. Kirk was actually an Admiral before he "borrowed" the Big E (In Star Trek 3: The Search for Spock) to rescue Spock from the Genesis Planet which was created by the explosion of the Genesis device in the Mutara Nebula in Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan. The Enterprise was destroyed in that rescue operation due to auto-destruct which was set bij Admiral (at the time) Kirk before he beamed down to the Genesis Planet. He escaped via Klingon Bird of Prey which he stole from the Klingons in a rather unique way. But not after seeing his own son (David Marcus) dead from the Klingons under command of their Commander (I think his name was Krang. Played by Christopher Lloyd) by stabbing with a D'k Tahg... Need I go on ?? Cos I'm very nerdy as long as it concerns Star Trek :P
