550 has a new Italian friend

With the impending arrival of driving licence for my daughter who turns 17 shortly (and so the need for a car which we can afford to insure for her to drive), I bought my wife a new car, which arrived yesterday. Not a Ferrari, of course, but at least it is Italian. Wife tickled pink. Daughter happy, too.

Sweet! Wife loves Cinquacentos. She saw your tri-colore stripe and now that's on the list of must-haves.

Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most.

Very nice.
I have a secret hankering after a 500 Abarth. Thought I'd get the hot hatch thing out of my system and bought a mini cooper a few years back, but I'd love a 500 Abarth to throw around.

Your cabriolet will be the perfect car for your daughter. Learning to drive with style...

Terry, last month when I was back in LA, my rentacar for a week was that 500 ! :steering wheel:

So, that makes me a "he she chick" for the week !

Hard to imagine that I was blasting thru the freeways with a chick car averaging 80mph !

w/ smiles

Jimmy- I have not tried one yet, but would like to. Even if they are chick cars. Except for the Abarth.

Same for Minis here. Chick cars except the hot rod versions. New Beetles, too, but unaware of any hotrod version.

Sadly the need to have a car that I can afford to insure for my daughter to drive precluded an Abarth.

Gender suitability is, I suggest, a matter of spec / colour scheme. This one is definitely, as you so charmingly describe it, Terry, a "chick car":

I've near impulse bought one a couple times now.....the issue I have is Lana won't, not can't, simply won't drive a standard and a 500 with an auto is pretty much a pig.

My wife long ago forgot how to change gear (so she can't drive either my 550 or 911 - how sad! ), so her 500 is an auto (or, in fiat-speak, a Dualogic, i.e. 2-pedal manual). Fortunately she is fond of pigs

Best wishes, John

i don't think that's an option in the US and sounds much better than the 4 speed automatic we got......that was just awful. Looking today the 4speed auto has been replaced with an asian manufactured 6 speed auto but it still goes from 40mhp with the manual to 34mpg with the auto so a pretty big hit that probably isn't there with a Duallogic option that we don't get.

Congrats, John. My daughter is 45 so my day buying her first car (a Toyota Tercel!) is a while ago but her daughter is just 3 years away from a license so I'll soon be looking for a similar deal for Emma Kate!
