Favourite Olympic sport?

Umm, this is going to test my memory (how many sports ARE there?) ...

ps Andrew: I started off with > 20 options but it wouldn't submit (too many), and it took a long time to get down to the right number (=10?). Is the limit mentioned somewhere?

To me Olympics is mainly about Track & Field, don't know why. The other games like football have their own wold championships which are almost as big as Olympics but with lesser team. But all the best athletes are in the Olympics.

Swimming because I use to swim and going to the Olympics was a dream until about 17 years old.

I'll agree with Dirk. We can start with sending e-mails to Jacques Rogge (big cahuna with FIOC) : wet t-shirt wrestling should be entered at the next Olympics! I'll start training for the mixed fights!
I'll settle with sailing for the time being.

Can't agree with this at all Stradale.

a) Track and Field has it's own World Championships, which is bigger than the Olympic Track and Field Championships.

b) It has never been affected by the political boycotts that have blighted the Olympics.

So in truth, all the best athletes are at the World Championships.

Personally, I like watching the sports that you don't see outside the Olympics - I can watch soccer or athletics or a lot of other things throughout the year - but Diving or Judo, for example - you never see them apart from during the Olympics.

Yep. A great fast sport to watch on the synthetic surface. Best teams usually come from subcontinent (Pakistan, India) & Netherlands. Aussies & NZ also up there.

Yeah, they are probably the "biggest ticket" events, esp the 100m and marathon, but I'm with Bazil. I never see sports like handball, table tennis, rowing or volleyball except at the Olympics. They help make the whole event special rather than a single-sport World Cup or Championship.

I think the only things bigger than the Olympics for a sport are:

NBA Championship
World Cup

Other than that I would say the Olympics is still the best achievement for all sports. There are other events but are they what an athlete wants to achieve? I think most athletes want a gold medal most.

Favorite Olympic Sport = the Olympics themselves. Great event. Best sport event in the world. Soccer is WAY WAY WAAAAAAAAAAAY overrated and about all the other sports world or european championships are plain stupid. Except Nascar, Indycar, Rally and stuff like that... anything with cars

And the Olympics had me glued to the tube for two weeks.

So I liked it all... but the womens swimming was kinda nice
