Offer to Buy Your Car

Yesterday evening while parked at an Autozone (go figure), a guy asked me if I wanted to sell the Volvo. I told him how much money had been put in the car (over $20K with receipts). He then offers me twice as much as I actually paid for the car.

I asked him how he would use the car; daily, show, weekend, etc. He said on weekends but the kicker here is what he would do to the car. He talked about swapping a Chevy 350 motor, changing the rear fenders and putting in 250 series tires in the rear. Needless to say, I wasn't impressed but still can't help think about my profit margin if I were to accept his offer. Still, I'd have a hard time giving him the keys to a great car that he'd just modify.

Anyone else with these kinds of experiences??

That's a very tough call, Dane. The call of the mighty dollar vs wanting to keep such a great car intact for the enjoyment of others in the future.

I guess it does look like a great rodding platform, and is probably quite unique in those circles. I'd probably take his details & when you eventually want to sell it then he may still be around if you're interested. In the meantime you can show the world what a great car it is in ORIGINAL condition!

Also if it's worth a lot to rod NOW then it should be worth even more in the future, as it is only going to get rarer. My 2c worth.

I love the Volvo. I wish I have one. No, don't sell it. You can't get another one, not in that condition!!

If he wants to buy the car for that price, and then modify it... ...there would sure be people who want to buy it for the same price and take it as it is...
