Keeping a car in Italy

I am looking to buy a property in Italy and intend to keep a car there. In order to avoid having to bring it back to the UK every year for MoT in order to get UK road tax and comply with insurance requirement, can anyone tell me what is involved in owning a car in Italy? I am thinking in terms of UK equivalents of Road Tax and annual testing requirements, but are there any issues about ownership, e.g. insurance for non-residents?

Best wishes, John

1. I think like France you will need a Italian passport.
2. Road tax for anything with an engine over say 1300cc is huge!
3. Insurance to insure an Italian car in Italy i would think without licence impossible, but you can insure a Uk car in Italy without a licence.
Annual testing not sure
I kept a UK registered Range Rover for three years in France, without a problem, no tax no mot just insured it locally
