Trojan Horse virus

I have AVG anti-virus software by Grisoft (www.grisoft.com)

What I have now is a window that keeps popping up and it is the AVG Resident Shield. It says:
Virus detected
Trojan horse Downloader.Qdown.C
To remove this virus, please run AVG for windows.

I run AVG with the latest database and the test results are "no virus detected". But I still keep getting this window popping up telling me there is a virus.

Does anybody know about this Trojan horse downloader virus? What does it do and how do I get rid of it?

Can't find much useful information on this one - but what I've found suggests that you're simply not going to kill it with AVG.

See these for a couple of suggestions:

Alternatively, you can always try killing it manually - I've found some instructions for killing the "b" version - which are basically to kill the live process then delete the exe file - if you can find it - for the earlier versions - it's quite easy to spot.

Hope this helps.

This is more for Bob than you Pete

Get a Mac and you won't get viruses. More secure and running on Unix. In Unix even if you did get a virus it wouldn't do anything to the system because Unix has restrictions.

or you can go here http://securityresponse.symantec.com/
if it finds a virus , it will tell you the
location of the virus at the end of the scan.
