14 june world blood donor day

I know it is still a month to go, but I want to know how many of you guys (and maybe girls) are blood donors. Why or why not? How long have you done it?

I did it the first time 3 days after I turned 18, and did it I believe 4 times since then. Then I moved to my new house and they had some problems with moving my info to the system here so I kind of forgot it. Looks like this day will be a good excuse to try it again. I think it is good to give blood because you never know when you might need it yourself...

I've given blood before when I was at the academy. It has been about 10 years since I last gave blood. Mostly I haven't done it because it is not convenient. With my work schedule I am usually offshore during blood drives and when I am home I have too much going on to even think about it. Poor excuses I know. If I am home during the blood donor day I will try and make the effort to give.

I first gave blood while I was at University - as they used to turn up three times a year. Fortunately, as I work for a very large company, I can do it at work too - I'm up to about 16 now - which is not as many as it should be - I really should do it every time they come.

I'm too young at the moment to give blood. Give it another couple of months.

I feel ashamed - I've never done it.

Don't feel ashamed - just go and do it!!

It's one of those things that I really feel good about doing. You don't get paid. You never know what happens to it. So why do it? Well - it's absolutely vital for someone out there, and I'd hope that if ever the time came that I needed blood it'd be there!!

Does it hurt? Absolutely!!! Anyone that tells you "it doesn't hurt a bit" is a bloody liar!! The real question is "Does it hurt a lot?" - and the answer is "No"

With 4 kids and 3 fish you should be able to donate gallons!!! :green:

The taxman? Isn't he the one that tends to take whole limbs?

For me it is no more pain than a little bit, maybe a bit more, but not that you have to say auch or something. Today I called the bloodbankoffice and they will send me papers to sign me in again.
