Price of Gasoline?

So how much does it cost where you live? We are at around $1.89/gallon here in the Northeast U.S.
Right now diesel costs the same as regular gas.

Pete - I sincerely hope you're not thinking of complaining about that price!!!

Here in the UK it's about 3.60/gallon - which is about $6.50.

No, I wasn't compaining, just stating a fact. I knew that the price of fuel was higher in the U.K. but I didn't know it was that high! The U.S. is a vast country without any real public transportation system. We heavily rely on our highway system and fuel prices like that would grind our economy to a halt. People would not be able to afford to get to work.

Oh so true, hence my post below about more trains needed. I love to drive (on the weekend) but taking a train is nice. Your always on time and you can study something on the train (new language, read books etc).

Around AUD$1.00 per litre in Sydney = US$2.80 per US gal = 1.86 per imperial gallon (I think). A lot more in regional areas. Diesel slightly higher.

I'm also curious about petrol/gas price variations. Here the prices must be publicly displayed to passing motorists as they jump around so much. The "normal" behaviour is for prices to progressively fall over a week by up to 10c per litre (= 10%) and then instantly jump back to "full" price around each Wednesday. All brands do the same thing at the same time week after week - and yet the oil companies claim (1) that they only make about 2c/L profit, and (2) that there is no collusion between competitors! Oh yeah

I buy on Tuesdays, needless to say! :green:

I don't work for an oil company. I work for a drilling contractor. Right now we are drilling for BP. (Used to be British Petroleum, now it is "Beyond Petroleum".) We have been drilling wells in water depths that the technology does not yet exist to produce. The average well we drill will not see oil flowing out of it for 10 years. No matter what you hear, trust me, the world is in no immediate danger of running out of oil.

Is there price fixing or collusion? I don't know. Ask OPEC. All I know is that it is big business when you've got an oil company prepared to pay you $100 million to drill a hole they can't use.
