Anyone Driven Dodge Challenger R/T before?

Has anyone had any experience with driving a Dodge Challenger R/T before? like a 2010-2013 model? (it has the 5.7L V8 HEMI engine). 376 hp and like 410 lb-ft torque i believe

I was offerred one for a very good price, with all the bells/whistles (leather, navigation, track package, etc) and a 6-speed manual. never considered it before, but after looking at it, may be a fun car to add to my collection...

thoughts? anyone has one, or have driven one before? pros/cons?

Maserati GranTurismo MC - Giallo yellow
Porsche 911 GT3 RS - black with orange accents - wife's car
F355 Berlinetta - Giallo Modena, 6-speed manual, carbon sport seats -recently traded in
Porsche Cayenne Turbo S

Funny you should ask. I didn't drive one, but just rode in one three days ago. One of my sailors just bought a new one in white and took me for a spin. A lumbering beheamoth, it seems fast like a Corvette, i.e. in a straight line. Lots of plastic on the inside. Navigation center looks like an old Atari game, but it is very easy to see and use.

I suppose I might want one if I was half my age.

Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most.

It seemes like all the modern muscle-like cars: fast, lots of power, and with nostalgic styling elements from the original muscle car days. To me, they would appeal to two types of buyers: Boomers like me who want to remember their early cars, and 20-somethings who want big fast American cars.

There's plenty of "go" in that car. It was fast. While you won't take on a 550 with it, or even a new Vette, it still has more power than anyone needs for street driving.

And I didn't mean to disparage the car at all, I just don't fit its buyer demographics anymore.

Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most.

No worries David

I didn't think I was the typical Challenger driver either, but got a great deal on it. It is definitely great for cruising. It feels very big and heavy. Navi is simple but also super easy to use. Clutch is weird...uptake is top high up in the range

But it's my DD so it's all good

Hey MC,

Buy it! I haven't ever driven one but have had a lot of time around them! They are great cars and sound great! But, I would rather have a Shelby GT500 or just a mustang GT.....

Hey Cutter,

I did get it! Saving a ton of money each month by trading in Cayman and Maserati. So I can get my wife the GT3 RS in a few months.

The challenger isn't bad. Never took myself for someone who would buy one, but the only dealer in town that would take my GS as a tradein had this challenger...And that was their only manual car.... I had to get a manual car no compromise there

Anyways it is super smooth, but too quiet for me. Guess I've been spoiled by the GRansport and the Ferrari F355. I have scheduled to install a Corsa Sport catback exhaust this ssaturday..should make it sound much better!

Some stats on Challenger:

6-speed manual with pistol grip shifter
5.7 L HEMI V8 engine, with 376 hp, 410 lb-ft torque
Heated, leather seats
Navigation touch screen with Sirius satellite music
HID headlamps
20" rims
track package with limited Slip differential
Side RT graphics and front hood dome with HEMI on it

I do miss the Gransport and Cayman, but the money saved is crazy and will allow me to buy my wife's dream car soon. Plus, I don't have to worry where I park the Challenger...not like the GS!

Enjoy!

Hi Barry,

You must have been posting while I was!

Your wish is my command.

I never thought I'd get one because I'm not the sort of guys who buys them....if there's a certain type. But it's much nicer than I'd thought it'd be

Gorgeous Challenger! Congrats! Is that B5 Blue?
I love Mopars, my father's 73 Road Runner 440 is the car that turned me into a gear head.

Ciao Jules

Barry,

Yup I try to accommodate others requests but honestly, thanks for the compliment

Nathan,

I don't know what color code it is...to me it's not black and that's all I care about. Too many black challengers around here

Around here, the challenger owners seem to be big, burly guys that are mostly blue collar guys....nothing wrong with that, but that's not me at all (I'm barely 5'8" lol!)

Anyways, it makes a decent DD. glad it's a manual or would have sucked. Can't wait to install that Corsa catback exhaust this Saturday!
