Radar Detectors

I am researching dash mounted radar detectors and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the "escort live" network that is available with either the Passport 9500ix or the Bell pro 500.
It seems a little over the top to me but maybe this is the wave of the future.

Trying to keep it simple.

If you want a simple solution you should use "Stinger Card with 2 extra sensors in the front". Great working systeem and not expensive(tickets more expensive).

I used the system 3 years, great stuff!

Better and more new high tech system; Stinger VIP. Seems to Be great.

Good luck
Nick

I have had several mfgrs. Escort is my preference and have one for every vehicle. The live system is as advertised but I only care about mapping out annoying signals like K items which are typically doors etc.

When mine go off it's LEO, and if not laser triggered you can mostly be prepared. So, I always back off even if the posted limit. Worked well (knock on wood) so far.

I had an in dash bumperized system once, but had it removed.

Of the two camps where one feels lots of info is still not enough (look at me I am a Jedi pilot) and 'goldielocks'/just right, I feel Escort as goldielocks in being less busy, simple, and very reliable.

I too am interested in the mapping part of the deal and the ability to block known false alarms.
I am a little concerned about having other "escort live" drivers reporting every police officer they see and I end up distracted by the whole thing.

Nick, I have not heard of the stinger card I'll give it a look.

Thanks.

I don't know what extra reporting would distract you. IF someone takes the time/effort to do such, it can be handy and can be ignored. I spend all my time NOT looking at screens or arrows or whatever, but just the sound as the ones I need are LIDAR, LASER, and Ka only.

I also do not look at the dash often other than the guage scan scenario or any screen, not even to see RPM or whatever is on a RADIO should I even have one one. I'm just listening to the sounds and feel mostly and plays well for me.

But I get what you are saying. One can dim the display and it can be better?

I recommend Escort for simplicity and accuracy. I don't believe any others out there can do more without more distraction. Actually, Escort responds with less for me.

good luck. Let us know why and what you end up with.

I ended up with a Belltronics Pro 500 with escort live.
I went for the bell over the passport for two main reasons, a matte black rubberized case on the bell vs. black plastic on the Passport, less reflection in the windshield and the speaker is on the top of the Bell vs. the bottom on the Passport, my unit rides on the dash.
I'm not sure if either reason matters after using it for a while now but there you go.

The unit works well, I have been alerted to several speed traps and sure enough the officer was there. It has also alerted to red light cameras.

It also alerted for a "LIVE OFFICER", once he was there, once he was not, I assume this was somebody in the network reporting it, I have reported a police sighting once by marking the location.

The escort live app. is pretty slick and does indeed work as advertized. It is easy to register, download and set up.

It was a little distracting around town at first but after a trip to Sonoma for the Ferrari challenge, highway, back roads, etc... it's now just another tool to avoid a meeting with the man.

So far So good, I like it.

Radar

If you dont have lasar jamming, if your tagged. your done. no detector can do anything to help you. Radar detection in city limits is useless. I have a Valentine One in my Ferrari , if a cop is using K or Ka band, the detector works really good (in the canyons).,I used my valentine one on my December Cross country trip, I did not get a single ticket, and my average speed was 95 MPH, In Ohio and Ct, I was told that the cops were using lasar on the freeways, so I did not speed, on one occasion, I saw a Ohio Highway patrol car parked, in between the freeway . I was going the speed limit, and he shot me with lasar to check my speed, my detector went off . If I was not expecting this,or did not see him, and I was speeding ,I would have got a ticket. The Valentine One is cool because it tells you if your getting shot from the rear or the front, with the lit arrows. It saved me at least 30 times going across country and back. The Valentine one also has a very good range of radar detection, well over a mile .
