MP4-12C Spider - First time seen, thoughts

Don't know how you guys are gonna respond to this :S

I saw the 12C Spider yesterday in Kensington and I have to say I liked it a lot more than the 458 Spider. I think it just looked marvellous, despite me not liking most spiders I actually think this is nicer than the coupe.

The noise was quite loud as well and he wasn't exactly going fast, I'm guessing its the large buildings on either side of the small street that trap the sound.

However, nothing is nicer than a 458 Coupe still ^^

I do like the lines on the 12C Spider. Seems McLaren has worked most of the teething issues out of the 12C range so this should be a very impressive supercar.

It's a beautiful car - have yet to see a Spider but it appears they are doing everything better.

From all the feedback I have gotten, they have gotten the Spider right.

The 300k coupes are being offered for 200k - those guys who left the Ferrari world paid a hefty price.

Wonder how many are willing to double down after losing 100k in one year for 2k miles of driving.

residuals on the 12Cs seem to have stabilized now in the UK. 2011 coupes are GBP 140-150k retail, knock GBP 10-15k off for trade values.

2012 coupes that carried a 300k list are 220k retail with 2k miles.

They still can't move em.

Apparently easier to build a car that can compete with Ferrari on performance than to build a customer base that will buy them.

Any discounts on new ones? Not that I can afford one.

The new spyder looks fantastic - exterior shows great and unlike the coupe looks less like a lotus (no ding on the Evora, just 225k difference should set them apart). My wife was blown away with the shifting which is very noticeable from our 360 (140ms vs 40ms). The coupe was an enjoyable test drive but IMO needs to drop 30% off sticker to begin pulling sales off the 458. I'm a coupe guy and wouldn't buy the MPC but if I did there are two carbon pieces that are a must to create depth and contrast on the exterior. Recommend a test drive - the push and pull shifting moving with the steering is fun.

I driven both the original coupe and the spider (with power hike) and would agree that the Spider is a stunning looking car - IMHO it pushes the 458 Spider very close for looks. Speed is astounding! Pics from Spider test day, 6 cars in attendance.

Looks like a spruced up Miata to me.

Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most.

Come to a conclusion the 12C spider > 458 spider.

I do like the McLaren, but it isn't as beautiful as a 458, IMO.

Life's too short to be unhappy!

Those flower pedal wheels are seriouly hideous. I agree, I think the MP4 has the 458 Spider beat or at least equal on looks. The interior still looks cheesy, especially the seats. I am sure Russell and Boxer remember my comments on McLarenlife.com.

It's really sad that you have to get the Spider to get a decent engine noise. Don't need a Spider with my SV, nor my Scud coupe, however, both have aftermarket exhausts.

Curious to see how residuals hold up, one year from now will tell all.
