Johnson Controls

In keeping with industry consolidation, Johnson Controls was purchased by Curtis-Wright recently. In case the name sounds familiar, they own Optima and other battery manufacturers.

You mean the Curtiss Wright that was responsible for killing Packard and Studebaker?

CW bought them both during WW2 for their production capacity and in the post war years they were both enormously profitable. CW bled the profits off and refused to reinvest a dime. On paper Studebaker bought out Packard and it limped along for a few more years. They even had exclusive importation of Mercedes Benz for a while but sold it. Both ended up not being able to continue production with a competitive price structure due to the continued use of pre war production equipment. In 1964 Studebaker was still using prewar equipment. CW killed Packard in 1958 and Studebaker in 1966 for tax benefits.

They F up everything they touch.
