iphone 5

Thought I would share my experience

For mac users the iphone 5 requires a higher operating system. If your MAC doesn't have 10.6 you could experience the following.

Two plus hours at the AT&T store and I was nowhere accept they cleared out my iphone 4s - not good.

Next step was to go over to the Mac store and spend two more hours.

The Mac store restored all my data on a hard drive - which could have caused all my information to be lost but fortunately didn't happen.

I have a corporate account - all the charges were waived but most should expect to pay at least a few hundred dollars to make the iphone back up system compatible with your current system.

On top of that - all your iphone connections will not work. It's a completely different female receptacle.

Now I know why they are promoting the ipod

At the end of the day I would still buy the iphone 5.

It's incredibly fast and smooth functions with better battery and camera with a larger display - but one should be aware it may not be a plug n play.

Yes but

The LTE iphone 5 is screaming when you get it. I just came back from Boston where the 4g is widely accessible and OMG. Unbelievable.

Agree on new connector. It took one month to get adapters. They just came. Need them for home,office,cars.....

The apple customer service experience though, leaves a bit to be desired

Doug why not upgrade the mac OS? Alternative back up to iCloud and make invisible.

Thanks for the tip on LFSC. Just came back. Great experience.

I have the OS - but for some reason the Apple guy said there are issues that all data could be lost. It may have to do with what the AT&T store did.

If you have a commercial account all phones have to go thru AT&T.

Glad you had a good experience - let me guess. Did the driver deliver your car at 3 a.m.?

If you are in town join us at the Blue Sky martini bar Thursday around 4:30 located in the Univ Tower building.

I have had a few "issues" setting up the iPhone 5. It decided to update itself via iCloud (which I thought had been turned off) and downloaded a bunch of old and outdated phone numbers.

Apple got their hands slapped in court a few years back for selling data so stored data in the icloud isn't accessible to Apple.

A new computer is the way to go vs an upgrade but the store requires 48 - 72 hours for a data computer to computer transfer and even then they don't guarantee they won't lose all the data.

Bottom line - do not delete your old phones data and simply shelf it vs doing the hand me down iphone thing.

I have had my 5 for a few weeks now, so i will chime in:

1st: if you have a 4s and are debating upgrading, stop, take your $200-800 (whatever your cost to upgrade) and go to the track, or play the lotto. The size and minimal weight difference are not worth the upgrde.

2nd: if you have smaller hands this phone is difficult to navigate basic things like mail, aka: you will need to change the way you handle your phone a bit

3rd: scratches to the body and glass are much easy to do, so handle with care. Where the 4 & 4s seemed a bit more indestructible, the 5 is not so much, get a case, get a screen protector asap.

4th: This feels nothing more than incremental, if my national exec did not deliver the phone to my desk to play with I could never see a legitimate reason to upgrade.

Cheers

Doug,

What's the new panorama addition like?

sounds like fun to use, never been a big mobile top range fan.

The 4s did it's job well for me, until it fell out of the jeans pocket whilst i was folding them up into the second story locker in the gym room

If my daughter didn't lose hers causing me to upgrade which I was able to do my 4s would have still been "in my use" vs Fed Ex to her.

Most important differences are battery life and picture quality - the lens is much better.

Got the case but not the screen protector - wonder if that causes any issues?

as a pretty hard core user, not sure i agree that the battery life is tremendously, if at all, better, i have seen some dramatic battery consumption

as for the screen protector, the glass scratches quickly, you can get 10 protectors for 10 bucks on ebay, it is worth it

Might be my 4s - my 4 had longer battery.

Not happy about a screen protector - will stop by ATT and see what options are out there.
