Big Tower in Istanbul catches fire

Wow, my father had just moved out of the tower about 2 months ago, he asked my opinion if he should stay there or move near the river. (I told him to stay so I could look at the Ferraris and Lambo's in the garage).

Well, he moved out for sure, I'm glad everyone was ok in Polat, the receptionist's and security guards were really nice to me

Doesn't look well. Is that smoke on the side or water being poured? Can't tell. IF smoke, it look not very good as multiple floors.

If water, I'm not sure what that will help, but hope the experts do.

@terry, yep.

@granucci, its water being poured i believe, but there is another photo somewhere with a lot of grey smoke.

I wonder how long it will be shut for? A lot of wealthy people lived there, I met the owners son in the elevator one time, he was really nice.

Shame, theres also a huge tower nearby as well, like 50 metres from Polat, although it looks far away in this photo. There's also a private hospital just opposite the tower, right where the photo was taken I believe.

I believe from this video of the tower burning I was on the opposite side of the tower, still this could of been much worse.

Here's a picture of the main entrance.

And here's what the Tower views has to offer.

It's water indeed. This picture shows the tower once the fire almost was extinguished. The entire right side of the tower burned out starting from the basement to the last floor...It seems that the fire started in the air con units at the base of the tower.

Bad news but I hope nobody got injured.

uh oh that means where all the Ferrari's were parked

When I go back to Istanbul, I'll go and see the difference.

I wonder how many people will leave, and how many people won't buy with the new Trump Towers just a 3-5 min ride away (they look very nice).

Strangely, it didn't fall into it's own footprint at free fall speed? Gotta get NIST over there to check it out.

I have my doubts about 9/11 too.... A plane at the top, I don't think can send a Very Strong Tower to the ground, maybe if it hit midsection or lower, the top half could of come down, but it hit much higher.... I also read on a documentary on NG that the building was "cleared" for something a week or so before September 11.

Some people have also said that Polat Tower was "built" similar to the WTC, minus a plane crashing into it though.

But it does apparently have very strong earthquake resistance.

I'm not an engineer, so I can't delve into the discussion that much.
