I finally did it!!!

I pulled the plug and announced my retirement - hard to walk away from good money and great clients, but it was time after almost 15 years w/the same company. I think I just "burned out" and needed a change of view

I also think I need a short sabbatical before I write my book (I just completed the thesis, cover and foreward; am working on the outline now)

I am also exploring a part time teaching position at the US Naval Academy as my way of "giving back" to society

Damn if it doesn't feel good despite all my friends telling me I am too young and that I will get bored (how does one get bored drowning bait?)

It certainly does give me options to explore other opportunities to fulfill my passions

Anyone else here in semi-retirement?

It'd be interesting to hear what your plans are and what you are doing with your spare time

Yes, good idea and maybe we can get Richard, Ahzir, Barchetta and Barry out too this year?

Pick a Sunday (not tomorrow, am going to see Bonnie Rait concert)

I'll see you on Wednesday night race and again on Thursday at Scotch and Cigars to celebrate my b-day and retirement. Lashdeep, PM me for details if you are reading this post.

Congrats!!!
I did the same 3 years ago after almost 20 years of slugging it hard. I did plan it for about a year, though, since I have 3 kids between 10-15 years.
Never have any regrets since....spending lots of weekends on kids' sports matches, music performances, etc. Getting involved in charities, trying to improve my golf game, learning to cook for the family at least once a week, and most recently, tripped into a group of fanatics and crazy guys (lucky it was car craze - FLifers) with my maiden FLED 6 to Scotland....

FLED trips 2x a year and golf trips 2x a year, that would do for me...

Get some activities going at your leisure and you will never be bored.
Really hope you enjoy your free time!

Gus

Congratulations.

I switched my career about 8 years ago that was previously a part time career.

Haven't looked back but once or twice and each time smiled.

You did the right thing - enjoy!
