Racing: Back in the Day NSF squeemish

This video I'm almost certain we hae all seen at one time or another, of this splicing of vintage races, or more specifically the crashes. It truly was a time of men and their flying machines abeit land vehicles.

Bodies will fly and one can guess on some of the outcomes, it is not for the faint of heat, but I found no problem viewing it other than 'wondering of some racer futures'.

Not meant as anymore than racing before safety took higher order. Vid is about 4 min.

Incredible footage Rik. It was truly a different sport back then.

I find myself watching this and thinking, 'how could they let people race like that?'. Then I think to myself, why am I surprised? In Ireland we still race motorbikes on closed street road circuits. Lamp posts, walls, trees, buildings everywhere. I've seen too many fatalities as a spectator, and still this racing goes on in 2012. That video is from a bygone era, but a trip to a motorbike road race in Ireland today and you will see the same dangers, the same crashes and unfortunately the same results.

Exactly what I was thinking. Rik you should really watch it. It covers the period from the mid 50's to the late 70's and gave us the term "Back when sex was safe and racing was dangerous". Ther are a few drivers, Jackie Stewart chief among them, that many modern drivers owe their lives to.

Quite a few when you consider the circumstances!

Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most.
