Australia gp (spoilers)

Looks like we may well have a season of under performance.

Car looked unstable by comparison to its peers and clearly the tyre issue remains with them.

Yes, back to drawing board. Having a driver like Massa doesn't help. More qualifying laps and still over 1 second slower than your team mate? Time to pack up.

Kimi, BTW, was seriously put in his place by Grosjean.

Too right. 3 and 18. You'd not have guessed which driver would be in those respective slots at the start of qualifying.

Although early in the season it is possible that they may reclaim some of the ground they have lost. However I see a mountain before them as the car is very nervous.

As to the new suspension it does not appear to work so well in putting heat into the front tyres.
Unlike the Maccas we now have an ugly under performing car as opposed to just an under performing car

I so do wish that I am proven wrong.

Me too. I hope they figure it out. "Ugly" can be overlooked (and even grow on a guy) if proven to be fast & effective.

I hope you guys don't mind me putting (spoilers) in the title. It will help those that have not watched the qualy's yet. I waited till i watched them before looking at the thread. A lot of us in the US don't see the qualies or race live.

anyway, ferrari sucks. it will be interesting to see raikonnen and the ferraris work their way through the field. and the lotus and williams work their way back. Should be an exciting gp in any event. I would really like to see micheal do well.

Well it seems they knew what was going to happen. Here Ferrari already declared that for the first four GPs things were going to be difficult. Hopes are on the new car which will be ready from the 5th GP.
Very disappointing. The Tifosi are already very unhappy with the team and Massa, considered another Barrichello.
Ciao
Mauro

Domenicali is happy for Fernando's 5th place and Fernando looked very happy too in a post race interview with the Italian RAI tv. I think this gives the measure of the real value of the car. The 5th place is the result of Alonso's skills, while the car is much worse of that. Massa was the usual disappointment: it is time to do something about that. He thinks to be a top driver but he is just a mediocre #2. Next race should be even more difficult for this car, exposing even more it's weakness.
Ciao
Mauro

100% correct Mauro! The worse the Ferrari gets, the more impressed I am with Alonso. I don't really like him as a person, but boy, as a racing driver, I just love his total commitment and willingness to fight! At Silverstone last year he was driving Froilan's 1951 GP car, and he was throwing it sideways, smoking the tyres. Just fantastic. He just makes machines come alive.

You're also completely right about Massa. He actually started amazingly well in this race, just like he does often. But, as always, after the first pit stop, he just falls back into mediocrity. I wonder why that is. It almost seems like he gets too physically tired to do anything after 20 laps.

One more thing about Massa - in 2007/8/9 he had FIRE, and he only narrowly missed being world champion. So he can drive, no doubt. But I've never seen that fire again after his accident. I think it just goes to show that you can't just rely on talent, you need to fight, fight, fight all the time. For some reason, Massa seems to have lost that desire.

This, for me, is also the reason that Schumacher hasn't impressed after coming back. A little bit of the fire is gone. However, he was VERY impressive this weekend, just had very bad luck that his car packed up.

that's why i think he lost the desire. make kimi a deal he can't refuse and kick massa to test driver. Kimi had quite the result. can't wait to watch the rest of the season.
