Ever seen one of these?

This little bugger caught a ride up to the surface on an ROV (remotely operated vehicle) from an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. The email I got with these photos said the thing was over 2 feet long. The ROV was operating in 8,600 foot water depth when this bugger climbed aboard. At 8,600' the pressure this creature lived at would be about 3,800 psi.

Dear God!!! You found sparky my pet!!!!! We'll I've have never seen one of those, but it kind of looks like an insect from some marvel comic.....definitely a villain because that definitely does not look like a very nice creature....

It sure does look like some scary alien thing. I still find it amazing though. You can put this creature in a container and pressurize it to 3,800 psi and it's fine.

Look at the face! Sure it's a face only a mother could love but look at those eyes. Those eyes look like they could deflect bullets.

Since it was caught by some Cajun Rednecks I'm pretty sure they boiled it and ate it.

I saw photos of never before seen underwater creatures after the horrible earthquake/tsunami in Indonesia that had been forced to the surface.

They had never been know to have existed!

They were weirder than this guy.

I'll try to find those.

I thought this was a joke.

That is one ugly mother ...

I can tell you I think of myself as pretty manly, but if I saw that thing coming at me I would be screaming like a little kid to get the hell out of it's way!!

Cheers!

I agree. I'd be shoving and pushing little girls to get away from this thing. Fortunately, the chances of us being 8,600 feet underwater where this thing lives is pretty remote. So we all can still be up here on the surface and maintain our facade of manliness.

Pete, it looks remarkably similar to some of the things that ended up on my plate at that food mall across the road from where we stayed in Singapore. I didn't like the look of it then and it doesnt look any better now. I can honestly say that I've never been so pleased to see McD's golden arches as I was in Singapore.

Did it die when it came to sea level?

The crazy thing is we've only dicovered a fraction of the creatures that live underwater. I can only image the other oddities livng down there.
