Aston Martin Cygnet?

Anyone know what Aston Martin was thinking when they did this? It's just a re-badged Toyoto set to sell in 2011.

Kind of fun to look at, but this must seriously devalue the brand and image.

I think I heard somewhere that Aston will only be selling this to existing owners of their proper cars?

Ferrari's: 360 Modena, 550 Maranello
Ex's: Dino 308 GT4, 612 Scaglietti
The Rest: Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, Porsche 911 2.7s, Porsche 911 3.2 Carerra, Ducati 916... and the Land Rovers

According to Wikipedia (that fountain of truth):

"The Aston Martin Cygnet is a microcar manufactured by Aston Martin and derived from the Toyota IQ. Its purpose is to allow Aston Martin to comply with the strict emissions rule by the European Union, in place in 2012. It will only be available to current Aston Martin owners. Aston CEO Ulrich Bez recently announced shipping expectations of about 4000 per year at a price of about 30,000."

If he sells 4000 of them yokes at thirty grand a pop, I will personally parade barea$$ed down O'Connell Street on St Patrick's day. Not a PRAYER does he have. Dear oh dear.

It would've fitted them better to try and improve the emissions and efficiency of their own product rather than bribing Toyota to help them cheat the rules. Either that or just admit they're a premium manufacturer, emissions be damned and pay whatever fine the EU throws at them.

I'm sure the same problem is facing Ferrari, but do you think for one minute that you'll be seeing any jumped-up Fiat 500s with Prancing Horse badges as a result? Not a chance.

People often accuse me of thinking the entire world revolves around me. It doesn't. It revolves around the SUN... which shines out of my ar$e.

My friend just returned from Japan. He said one of the car magazines did a parody on this and took the same car and modified it (in photo editing software) to fit all the major exotics. They had a F430 version, Gallardo, etc.

Ferrari does not have the same issue as they would be included in the greater Fiat numbers.

Only available to Aston owners, and expecting to sell 4000 a year? I thought German CEOs didn't smoke grass...

I think Abarth and Fiat with Mini are the only ones that can pull that off.

What's next?
