Merry Christmas and a look back on 2009
A very Merry Christmas to all.
2009 has been what a friend of mine used to call a pisser. In January it looked like we all might be heading nose first into the next great depression. Visibility on how things might turn out was pretty limited. In case it all went completely pear shaped I pulled enough money (and took a nasty hit) out of the markets to make sure I had enough cash on hand to cover living costs for quite a while. I also sold off both the 360 Challenge and a Maserati Gransport as they both seemed to be un-needed expenses/luxuries at that point in time. The 360 Challenge in particular had turned into a white elephant as the group that I ran it with went kaupt in December 08. Add in a new US President who is the most inexperienced gentleman to sit in the Oval Office since Millard Fillmore, and things in the 1st quarter of the year did not look promising.
However at about the time we headed off for FLED 2, some cautious optimism returned. The banking system stabilized, the European economies did not go into a complete free fall, and no new global hot spots emerged. At least it seemed that a shaky bottom had been reached. While I am sure more unpleasant surprises will emerge, the worst now does seem to be behind us. And with that, the outlook for 2010 does seem to be much brighter, with most of the major industrial economies now emerging from recession and job growth returning.
and so a Happy 2010 to all.
