"Beach" seat covers

I've just completed another little mad reproduction project for the Dino. For several years there have been periodic discussions on the other site about the almost mythical beach seat cover accessory for the 246. Pictures of originals were posted but nobody had ever seen a set in person and I was intrigued by them.

They covers were made to resemble the cloth seat centre option and had foldable metal fixing straps (like the ones on the Sebring emergency top for the GTS) that were designed to be bent into shape around the seat insert cushion to hold the cover in place. The idea of them was presumably to offer owners in hot climates a removable cloth centre section that was more comfortable to sit on than either the vinyl or leather seats. After having returned my Verde Germoglio car to it's original spec with the cloth seat centres I really like how it looks and how comfortable they are so decided to get the beach covers made after tracking down the necessary materials.

Here is a photo of an original set -

And finally a picture showing one in the car to illustrate how it brightens up the interior (apologies for poor camera phone quality of this pic).

Oh to spend the day at the beach, and drive home in your Dino. Such is heaven. Love the seat covers, wish I had a Dino to put them in.

Cheers

Enjoy the journey so much you don't care how long it takes to get there.

They are made in the same way as the regular seat centres but the foam they are mounted to is obviously much thinner and they require a fabric backing which tthe regular centre cushion covers don't. Both the cloth and backing materials have to be glued into place before stitching or they will move around on the sewing machine making it impossible to stitch the ribs straight. The gluing stage is tricky as it is easy to get the glue staining through both fabrics if you are not careful. There is a lot of work involved in a set.

The fixing tabs are made the same way as the ones on the GTS emergency top.
