The cogs look great and the synch rings are shot like predicted.

The guides had some wear too and will be replaced.

The casing had a minor crack, probably from external mechanical impact from a ground object. It had been fixed back in the day with mouldable metal paste but has now been welded.

Engine out and looking good all over. You can see the notorious leaking point over the alternator. It's from the cam chain tensioner cap (alternator holder under the tensioner cap underneath the cam shaft farthest to the right). My leak was minimal but new seals are coming and a hand made drain pipe will be installed to bypass future dripping away from the alternator.

This is all you need to sort out the drip issue from the tensioners. It's called the D3S and is made by a couple of real Dino enthusiasts whose attention to detail is mind boggling.

I think Paul and Rob's idea is great and you can add it while everything is still on teh car
but when this happened to me 3 years ago I fashioned a heat shield with the runoff tray as an extension so nothing could get around it.

I'm sure it's totally protected from oil leaks but it seems to have little heat evacuation?

There is plenty of space on the back side to allow airflow to escape as I had to have enough distance from the rear of the alternator to the electrical wiring to protrude from their connectors and not touch the metal shield. On the front side the pulley blades direct the cooling airflow through the casing.

The goal of the heat shield is to reflect radiative heat transfer from the exhaust.

I have driven for 4+ hours in 100+ F ambient mid day temps in July and August in California and not had a failure yet. Over 15k Kms on this design, up and down the West Coast sometimes 10+ each day and no problem.

Capo- Looks brand new. Too bad there is not enough room to put double synchronizer rings on 2nd gear.

Apparently the synch rings are larger from my model and onwards and so will take more abuse. The rings had 58.000 km when I took over the car so I'm expecting at least around 50.000 additional kilometres of inspired driving before next overhaul and that's ok.

I had them touch up everything underneath and in the engine bay when the engine was out and it looks really nice and neat now. Every engine out job gives you an opportunity to shape things up. Alternator and start motor are overhauled and a the oil dripping from the cam chain tensioner onto the alternator is fixed by new seals. A protection plate was installed in case the dripping reoccurs many miles ahead.

She's good to go and be driven very hard, just like Enzo wanted.:crowngrin:
