Alex- Are the flares and chairs original on that car?

Alex- Yup, there are probably more updated cars than originals. My old 02984 has flares and chairs now and those were not even offered when she was built in December 1971.

Alex- Brings back fond memories of having my head stuck in the right rear wheel well doing various and sundry things, including tune-ups.

Scott- So is 02984, my old Dino, and I can guarantee she did not have flares and Daytonas when she came from the factory or when I owned her.

Data not always reliable and definitely does not confirm factory flares and Daytonas, which were not even available in Dec 1971 when mine was built.

I've found Matthias Bartz to be one of the few reliable sources for original build data as he had access to the factory records. The Dino Register is good as an initial point of reference but as Terry points out it is often found to be inaccurate as it relies upon owners to provide the correct info on their cars and is not regularly updated. In the UK we are fortunate to have the Maranello Archive which has the original documentation for most cars supplied via Maranello Concessionaires here.

Current: F50, 246 GT (x 2), 246 GTS
Past: 360M, F430 spider, 430 Scuderia,
California (x 2), 458 Italia (x 2), 458 spider, 246 GT

The first two owner entries in the Dino Register do not show that 02984 had wheel flares so I guess I do not understand your statement "so is 02984..."

Apologies if I'm missing something or butting in where I should not but the Register states it as that.
OTOH, I agree that many people have added these flares in the 20+ years I have owned Dinos as well as the 15 years I attended shows before then. There are tell tale angles that many repro addition flares do not get right.

At the Monterey Ferrari week in 1994 one dealer had fully restored his Giallo dino and added flares with the only intent to win at the FCA Concours event and then sell, which he did. Several of us were a little disappointed at the judges for letting a shiny, fresh but incorrect restoration win.

Scott- From the entry on 02984, the power windows were not added until the last owner had her too, but she came from the factory with electric windows. The lack of entries in the first two owners' summaries does not mean something was not fitted, it just means Matthias did not have complete information. From those three entries, you would assume the car always had flares and Daytonas.

Also, John Romano did not have the seats recovered in tan leather, I did. Guess I should send in some corrections and photos of 02984.

So what I was saying was you cannot use the Dino Register to confirm a car has original flares and Daytonas. To do that, Matthias would need to make an entry of flares and wheels "added" or "original" and the same for the Daytonas, if he had that information.

Alex- That looks really nice, brand new in fact. Mine was 3 years old when I got her and the engine did not look like that.
