246GT Dino - Original Paint Colour

I am restoring my 1973 246GT Dino (Chassis No 05938). Does anyone know how to access the original paint colour (and colour code)? I have emailed Ferrari and looked on the Dino Register.

Sorry Ian, I can't help you with 246 issues or questions. But I'm sure one of our smart guys will chime in shortly.

All I can do is welcome you to the forum. And tell you you've come to the right place.

Colour certicates were available through the Ferrari website, once you supplied chassis, engine numbers etc. Not sure if this service is still available

Perhaps go to the factory website for Ferrari Owners, register your car (in MY GARAGE) and they will tell you. It worked for me

has it been repainted a different color? if so, there is probably some old paint underneath something.

Ian- If you are still around, it might be worthwhile contacting Marcel Massini and see if he tracked Dino 246 GTs. He tended to ignore the production cars after the Boxers, except for Supercars like the Enzo, but did have lot of information on my old Daytona, 14009, including Assembly Number (364), original colors, and original owner.

Thanks guys for all your input. Sorry for the slow response - I have been caught up overseas. Here is a photo before the restoration started.

Hello, Ian. I am no expert in colors and I cannot furnish you with the specific color codes as such, but according to one of the Dino magazines I have a list of 16 solid colors and 14 metallic colors. Presuming that the original color was green based, there are two solid colors here. One is Verde Germoglio (green) and Verde Scuro Dino (dark green). The metallic list indicates Verde Medio Metallizzato (medium green metallic). Hope this is of some help. Cross referencing to Daytona paints list, I can find Verde Medio Metallizzato as 106-G-30; Verde Medio Nijinsky; Verde Pino Met 106-G-30; Verde Pino Blenheim; Verde Seabird.

Further cross referencing to the wide list of paint colors listed for 275GTB (which this author indicates that this color list was used for many other models also), from this list I can find Verde 20.449 and Verde Pino 20.453/106.G.30.

Hope this is of some help for you to go on. Sorry for the confusion, maybe. w/ smiles Jimmy

Ian,

Nice Dino! If you're not already, register on Ferrari Chat, go to the 206/246 area 206/246 - FerrariChat.com and post your car with its chassis number. Matthias "GermanDino" FerrariChat.com has amazing records. He can probably help you. He can also tell from your engine/trans number if they're still original to your car.

Good Luck,
Freeman

Freeman, There is an excellent registry here:

so no need to send anyone to FChat.

Boxer,

Thank you. As a Dino owner, there seems to be limited information available and a really small owner/enthusist group. It's really been of great help to me to look at multiple sources. There's a core group of Dino owners/enthusists on F-Chat that have really been helping each other out. Matthias "GermanDino" in particular. He has helped many owners find history on their cars. Somehow his database includes chassis numbers and their correct engine/trans numbers and original color specs. Usually info that Ferrari and others charge for. He's coming out with "the" definitive Dino book in the future. I find myself jumping back and forth to learn as much as I can and to follow as many leads that are shared. Love being here(and there)!

Best,
Freeman

It is a small community, we do have quite a few very knowledgable Dino owners here including SCM246, Taz, and JimmyChenShibba. I am sure they all would be more than happy to help with info. Also lots of great info is stored in the Elite Members Section.

Correct, but interesting to note that several prominent Ferrari Tifosi like Brian Crall, Greg Calo, and David Helms left there to come here. Why not join us here too!
