Drag Race - Tesla Model S P85D vs Ferrari 458 Italia

Looks like after the launch the Ferrari catches up in a hurry.

from the article:
The Tesla has a more powerful engine, but is much heavier than the Ferrari. During these runs, there were two people in the Tesla and one person in the Ferrari.

Can anything run on a battery really be said to have an "engine"?

Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most.

That is quite impressive for a large saloon car! It would be interesting to know what speed the Tesla reached before the 458 caught up with it (and what range it had left in its batteries!).

Best wishes, John

Would like to see the two in a track situation, but with the new release of the AWD Tesla, it might be a push for Ferrari

One thing that the electric cars do very well is acceleration from the still position simply because they can have maximum torque at any given time but that's pretty much where their superiority ends. Tesla can't compete on any other fronts such as handling, top speed, longevity, braking, etc. It is like saying that a pickup truck is better than a sports car because it can carry more. If all you want is to have a fast start off the lights, Tesla is better than a real sports car.

I drove the new P85 model w/two electric motors last month and wasn't impressed.

May be a good car for the 1/4 mile track runs, but it certainly doesn't have the endurance or feel of a sports car, or even coming close to the experience of driving a Ferrari.

Poor fit and finish, backup camera, but no front facing camera, interior fitted with cheap plastics and upholstery, stereo (Bose system) really tinny sound, especially in the rear. Magnets weigh too much, I guess, for decent sound system speakers. Imagine running low on juice this summer, ambient air temp og 96*, high humidity and having to turn off the a/c so you can make it home,

It certainly wasn't worth the $135,000+ price. In fact, I wouldn't buy it for $50,000.
This is a car for the Prius car crowd with deeper pockets.

If I was buying an electric, I'd take a close look at the BMW i8 hybrid instead.

I can see all the 458 owners watching the video and then deciding to trade in their cars for a Tesla.

Yeah, right.
