Am I Too Tall For a FERRARI 458 ITALIA SPIDER

Need a little help guys and gals...

I am thinking about buying my first Ferrari, but am getting mixed reviews on height restrictions...

I am 6'5" with shoes on and am worried I cannot fit....

Wow , you are 2 meters tall. I think Ferrari is not your brand! I am 1,70 mts and can barely fit in my F40 or F50. In the Enzo i have more room but a person over 1,80 will start to feel tight.
Maybe another brand would work better! Sorry!

Current:F12, F40 , F50 , Enzo , Mclaren P1

Hi lawyer80, firstly ignore Pablo's comment (sorry Pablo you're under qualified for this question). I'm 6'5 1/2" in bare feet and have driven all the modern Ferrari's as well as a lot of the older ones. Some are good others not so.

Things to consider are not just height but leg to torso ratio. Not everyone is the same so this makes a big difference in the different cars. Also you need to drive the cars not just sit in them because fitting is one thing but your lines of vision are another.

In saying that, you will not have a problem in the FF and F12 which have loads of head and leg room plus a more spacious cabin than previous models like the 599. The 458 Italia is a sports car (as apposed to a GT car) so has a more cosseting and focused cabin, but with race seats (which are more comfortable IMO) is very comfortable for me. The Spider feels a little tighter but it's not so much a headroom issue but where your eye-line is with the top of the windscreen which is slightly different than the Italia.

So take a few test drives preferably in cars with race seats, play around with the positioning and lines of vision and go from there.

If your set on a spider then see how you go, but if not the F12 is the car to go for IMHO as it is bigger, faster and cooler (is it a GT or is it a sports car?) than the rest. Will I follow my own advice......well no, the 360 spider will eventually make way for a 458 Italia with race seats.and from there who knows.

Cheers
Michael

I disagree. I have many friends that are 2m tall and own Ferraris, including classics. They have to adjust a bit but they never complain about it.

For myself, I am 6ft1 and I've yet to find a Ferrari that I cannot be comfortable in. I've driven about 12 models, ranging from 1964 to 2014.

It does help to be slim, though, especially if there are bucket seats in the car. Even the largest size is still pretty narrow.

As for the specific question of the OP: the 458 has plenty of room for a 6ft5 person. The only real problem is getting in and out: the gap in the door is narrow if you can't open the door completely. I have to turn myself into a slithering snake to get in and out of my car when it is in the garage.

The best thing is to visit the dealer and try it out yourself.

Onno

Jajaja... Good i got everyone talking about it.
They are all wright! You can fit in all the modern no problem and even in the F50 and Enzo.
But on the F40 i think you might have some problem but can try.
Good luck!

6 2 here.

The 360 - my view was partially impaired by the visor. 430 was better but the seats in the 16M Scud without the motor is 2 - 3 inches lower.

I don't know enough about the 458 but deleting the electric motor should reduce inches.

Some guys have taken out some cushion in their electric seats but I think the Sport Seats are way to go.

Let me add - Pablo should ship you the F40 F50 and Enzo to authenticate his post.

Hi lawyer80. First of all welcome to FLife. I don't think your height would be a problem, since the 458 is a pretty roomy car inside even if it doesn't look that big from the outside, but as the others have mentioned, the best way to find out is a test drive. By the way, sorry for the irrelevance of the question, but are you a male or female Ferrarista ?

Surely with a Spider you have unlimited headroom?

1.95 cm tall. In my Scaglietti I'm ABSOLUTELY GREAT! With a little bit of attention someone could sit in the back too.
I've tried a 458 Italia for three days and it was good. Not great, but good, you have to adapt a little bit your drive position.
I've tried to jump on a 458 Spider (my dream, I'm working on it) .. well it can be done. Just a little bit of attention. Probably I'll ask a 7 days rent before buying it.
Onestly absolutely better than the McLaren MP12 (at least I entered it ... and stop.) or Lamborgini (Gallardo .... don't even try. The new Aventador too).
To be honest, with the 458 Italia or spider you'll never put a helmet for drive racing (or you'll drive with the head down, like a elephant in a mini)

There's less headroom in the spider than the Italia. It is adaptable upon adjusting the seat position/incline. I'm 6'3" and my head rests on the rear cross member of the spider. I have plenty headroom in the Italia. Yeah, it's a spider so the sky's the limit! Cheers.

If that offer still stands, I would definitely book a flight right away. Crap, even to ride along in a F40 would worth the tickets 10 fold

I am 6`- 6" (bare feet) and 240 lbs with Athletic build. I fit fine in a 458 and able to drive it safely. As mentioned above, leg length makes a difference but you will find that most human % height difference comes in the leg length vs upper torso. I find driving shoes do help vs taller dress shoes or athletic shoes. I fit well in a R8, not in a Hurcan since the seat bolsters are fixed and cut into my sides (roof to short too). Mclaren 570 is like a go cart to me, so I do not fit but the Mclaren 720 is a great fit. Just a few comparisons in case you fit in some and not the others. Now the new Aston Martin DBS superleggera, I can stretch my legs all the way out and could drive across the country in that one.

I'm 6 '3' and I fit well on my 458 spider. But I'm very slim.
