458 coupe: Buying advice

Hi there, I'm the market to buy a used 458. I was wondering if anyone could chip in to give me some advice on what to look out for when buying. Also, what is it like to live with a 458 and maintenance costs (assuming 2010 models). Many thanks.

Annuals cost about $1200. Brakes pads are about 5K and if you drive hard, expect it every few years or after a track event.

My advice is to go for an 11. 10's still had issues of gearboxes needing to be rebuilt too often. If you can spring for it, go for a 12. 12's have more aggressive software, the option to put the speedo on the screen with the radio stuff on, and the 7 year free maintenance program.

I agree with @TheMayor . I have a 2012 in Nero Daytona Metallic ( which is a great color for it ) I highly recommend it if one comes your way! But driving it is an amazing experience, I have had mine for almost a year and I am fully in love with it, so you are making no mistake buying one!

Originally from Monte Carlo, Monaco. The most amazing place in the world, but you always feel that little bit better when you are viewing it from the seat of a Ferrari.

Does the 7 years free maintenance apply to all 458 model years or only the 2012s and later?

For me sports seats are a must have! They are supportive and comfortable.
Maintenance mine is a 2011 car and have serviced her twice now both time costing around 2500 euros.
Tyres are not as expensive as you would think, around 400 euros a corner expect 12,000 klm of hard driving out of them.
Buy one you will love it.... but for gods sake use it these cars are now built to use, and you can nearly daily..

Cars
458 coupe normale, California T, Speciale A, 458 GT3, FF Maserati Ghibli diesel!
on way in 2015: La F, and 488, 2016 488 spider

I hope that means we are going to start see a lot of higher mileage 458s.

It would be great to kill the mileage myth on Ferraris and move to more of a Porsche mileage mindset.

Scott for me I really hope so, the 458 can be used daily, I have had mine out in icy conditions, and no real problems.
My useage has dropped only since I now have the FF also.... but my god that does get used. another 3000 klm trip planned next week.

My 458 is 2011 and it has 7 yrs warranty. I think Ferrari started the 7yr warranty from late 2010 onward on all their cars.

Trying to do my part. I've had my 2013 Italia for 9.5 months. Clocked 8400 miles so far. Just love driving the thing, although the pickup truck is still a better option for hauling lumber etc. . I plan on keeping it and driving it for many years. Resale value will be an issue for the executor of my estate.

How refreshing! Not only are you enjoying the hell out of your very nice car but you are not of the same addict mindset that unfortunately controls most of the folks who can afford to purchase very expensive super cars. That is, the car loses its appeal as soon as (or before) the new car smell has worn off and we (yes I suffer as well) must buy the next newest hardest to acquire vehicle. Enoy it my friend and occasionally post a picture of your odometer

Service or Warranty for 7 years? Warranty was 3 years unless I am mistaken?

Also is the service package miles limited or unlimited?

F430, 458 Challenge, Ford GT, Gallardo, C63 Black,

Gus,

If you are talking a 7 year free maintenance period, then I'm pretty sure yours must be a MY2012 (manufacturing year 2012). This means it was made between August 2011 and July2012.

Chris & Onno,
Yes, I meant to say 7-years free service/maintenance... warranty is 3 years... sorry for the recurring language barrier
I believe it is unlimited mileage, with annual service or at 20,000 km (and 40k, 60k, 80k, etc).

My car was delivered end of May 2011 and I have just renewed the licence fee this week. If I remember correctly, when I ordered my car last quarter of 2010, the dealer told me about the 7 year free service policy already started with new deliveries then... I may be wrong...
