Taz! this is dedicated to u! 458 challenge rims!

well this isnt my idea at all, i saw Taz's post on them HGTE rims and i casually asked if it will fit my spider and he confirmed it. So, it got me thinking on my 612 OTO ball polished challenge rims which has been sitting on the self after i got the HGTEs, low and behold after 12 hours here it is :

the challenge front is 14 kilos, the rear is 15.5 kilos,
the spider stock front is 13 kilos, the rear is 14 kilos.

im pretty shocked that the challenge rims are 1 and 1.5 kilos heavier respectively because the stock spider rims LOOK so heavy and are even 0.5" wider front and back. The lesser width was also a non-issue to the naked eye, they almost look the same width side by side.
When i started this exercise i almost bet on the challenge rims being lighter because they were on the CS and options for the 430, maybe OTO ones are heavier i dont know.
.
.
.
.
.
but......., most importantly, the ball polished challenge rims look awesome on my spider!!!!!! :thumbsup : and its perfectly flushed with the fenders like the stocks and with a teeny bit better front caliper clearance. I dont know how it drives on my runs yet, but so far looking at my reflection from the office buildings going home was awesome!!

Dont get me wrong, i like my stock rims, but these polished challenge rims make the already bling charactered spider even more blingy.

again, all credit goes to taz for this idea and i will make him happy when i put the HGTE ones on which are lighter and wider than stock! ...... maybe in a few months while i enjoy this new bling.

Nice project, certainly something different. TBH I prefer the rims designed for the 458 (standard, sport and spider wheels) to these. But not to rain on your parade, that's just my humble opinion and these do look nice. Hope you're happy with them!

John- They look fine. I actually prefer the thin, forged, five spoke wheels on the 458, but those fit fine. Probably a little less braking and cornering ability than the stock wheels due to being narrower F&R, but the 458 limits are so high, most drivers would never notice.

I definitely like silver or ball polished wheels better than black or gray ones, too.

Yes, good point, I like the fact that they are not black.

John- The 599 wheels are 11" in the rear so a better match. The narrower front and wider rear wheels will tend to make the car understeer a bit more, but should not be too bad.

When the 458 Scud comes out, look for 9-9.5" front wheels and 11-11.5" rear wheels.

John- You were wondering about the weight on the Challenge wheels and you have to remember the 18" Challenge wheels for the 360 Challenge Series cars and the 19" center lock wheels for the F430 Challenge Series cars are made from a different and lighter weight alloy. That alloy is not as tough as the alloy used on the street Challenge wheels for the CS, F430, 612, and 599, and also costs quite a bit more.

John, As the pictures were loading I didn't think I would like them. But I have to admit, they really do look nice.

John- They definitely look good on your 458 Spider. One case where the Spider is at least as attractive as the coupe.

Two Apertas in one place? Very rare and very attractive.
