my spider just got squashed....

really got screwed by ferrari this time with their mighty awesome f12.

After owning a 458 for a year and some super enjoyable miles later, i got a spider coming before June and now they spank out a 740hp F12??!!!
And looking at them pictures, it impressed me more than the 458 did when it first came out. With the V12, DCT, plus the 740hp made me want one so bad.
Now especially after the f12 coming out, i look at the 458 and spider as being dull and uninteresting, of course im used to it and know exactly what to expect. whats worse is i can get the f12 before december!

Now im dreaming what 740hp feels like. My last most powerful feeling car was the 620hp 599, imagine something better with 120hp more and improved electronics and handling! BAM!! my spider just got squashed and think im gonna drive it for a few months and jump ship to the almighty V12 amd hopefully not lose too much.

as uninterested as i may be, im sure some will still wanna see my pics of the spider, so here it is :

the color is a $30k new red option that looks nice and musterd-y in bright sun light.

It's very unfortunate that neither car is available with a stick. But I'd take that Spider over 12 F12s! The Spider is fast enough, and an increase in horsepower wouldn't be enough to entice me to switch.

I need an Aventador!

Good point Carbon. Now that you mention it, at 3600 lbs, the F12 probably needs most of the additional horsepower just to keep up with the 458!

Didn't I read the Ferrari agreed to build Eric Clapton a V12 458?

The best of both worlds....and if Ferrari thinks they can stuff that engine in I'm certain a standard 455 (and probably 360, 430) could be converted....I have a sawzall if somebody wants to borrow it and give this a try, what could go wrong?

Yes you read it but it is not true. Clapton's car was at the factory on the 21st of September 2011, when I was speccing my 458. Unfortunately, I missed the car by half an hour as it was road testing. The car is NOT a V12, it is a 458 that has a new body inspired by the shape of the Ferrari Boxer. Basically a retro Boxer with a 458 underneath. Unfortunately no photos have surfaced of this car, quite annoying. But I have had confirmation of the car by other people.

I was told that it would not be possible to give any client a 458 with a V12 because the homologation costs for European legislation make it impossible.

John- It is a V12 with 740 hp and it is both good looking and mean looking. I do not blame you for wanting one. I would rather have an F12 than a dozen 458s, to misquote Carbon.

The Spider hard top isn't for me nor is any hard top convertible.

It's spectacular but not lovable.

The 458 in either guise is not for me, not ever, not even if it it was gifted to me. Give me a good F430 Spider or 16M any day of the week, their handling is sublime and their gear change brutal and hugely enjoyable.

The F12 is a much more desirable proposition IMO, I do hope they have retained some of the 599 HGTE's brilliance in it, as that is a seriously impressive drivers car!

Yesterday's history, tomorrow's a mystery, today's a gift.....enjoy every minute!

Thanks. I wondered how they were getting past the regulatory hurdle which these day is generally much higher than any engineering problem.

Mark- Affirmative, but like someone else I know, V12s are just fascinating to me, especially one that turns as many revs as yours and the F12's (8700 rpm). Even if the 458 turns 9000, you have a lot more firing pulses per second for that beautiful V12 song.

you know........an audi W12 would pretty much just bolt in to any of the V8 cars I'd think and will pump out 600-700hp with very little work......not that I would do such a thing you understand, just a fun fact
