On the 458 delivery list - early 2012

My dealer called yesterday and said they had made their allocations and I would be on the early 2012 list for a 458. He said it would probably be earlier than that, but not nearly like the California list which opened up so quickly!

He said the price would be in the $275k +/- range. Offered at MSRP.

Exciting news colonel1961! With the way that time is flying, delivery will be around the corner. Please keep us posted on colour choice and specs that you decide to go for. Must say it looks wicked in both black as well as yellow.

Thanks, Vitalone! The news is out of the blue, i.e., they called me - which is very nice! I, too, like nero and giallo. Still have lustings for an F-Car in Silverstone, though...

You lucky devil. First the 430 then the 612 and now this. I'm very envious but that's awesome news. Btw if you don't mind me asking what do you do for a living?

Congratulations colonel! My vote for your car is giallo.

Question: Does the $275K include options or is that the base price? Just thinking out loud -- if it's the base price, that would put the 458 Spider in the $300K+ range (base) bringing it in direct price competition with the V-12s. I wonder if that means Ferrari will be bumping up the price on the 612 replacement.

That sounds great but pricing is quite a bit more than first announced.

Think they are assuming fewer sales of the 458 than earlier models?

My assumption is $275k base and the Spider would be most likely in that $300k range, ceteris paribus. 612 replacement is probably north of $350k - just a guess...

I guess the 430 came out when the world was still gung-ho. Perhaps they are scaling back their assumptions just a little.

Played cards with a lawyer friend last night and he is going to get my ticket zapped or at least reduced to driving school. I really need to keep my license and my insurance premiums under control!! Of course, I could also slow down just a touch...

Thanks, Boxer. He later said that it would be December 2011 at the latest. Actually using the configurator for something other than daydreams, now...

Excelent Colonel. You made the plunge that I want to.... I keep telling myself that it's silly buying another Ferrari. Then I look at the 458 and I tell myself it makes perfect sense!

I want this car badly but I don't want to sell any of the others. So it's probably a no for me but once I've driven it I might feel differently...

Congratulations to your choice. The 458 is a fantastic looking car, technically well above everything else offered these days!

2 years waiting time is quite some time though. I would expect that if you order today, finally you will get it in 12 - 18 month already.

Interestingly, here in Switzerland they are already offered on the secondary market without price premium.....(!). I wonder if some already feel the heat of having ordered too much ?

Altho I am not in this market (probably because I am an old f_rt), but that is interesting. I wonder how many 458s they plan to make (production) ? w/ smiles Jimmy

Well, garage space and a wife ensure a one-at-a-time policy at Casa de la Colonel, so I have no issue! Although it is a problem I'd like to have one day!

His allocation is 20 per year. I am fourth in line for year two, i.e., number 24. Not sure of the lag time from order to delivery. If I remember correctly from the California negotiations, it was about 5 months.
